I've been trying to play some rpg and fps games like Deus Ex:HR, Hitman Absolution, DA2, Skyrim, Borderlands 2, Assassins Creeds, GTA's and likes but always after couple days I lose interest. Actually Tomb Raider and BG:EE are the only games I've been able to finish in a year or so. (nostalgic reasons, I played first four with my son when they were released) I was looking new games in Steam store and couldn't find anything I wanted. So I decided to try some old classic I've missed and went to GOG and bought Fallout 1.

Whoa! Holy **** it is awesome! Ok, companions are idiots and I play without them but nearly everything else is golden. With couple UI mods it look decent enough. I haven't found water chip yet with my hand to hand character.

Yup. I firmly believe that the golden age of RPGs was 97-2000 ish. These days everyone is so caught up on the graphics (and the costs that come with them) that they end up blowing all their budget on that instead of plot and mechanics.

I think you are right. I hope Project Eternity and Torment can bring back some of that golden age feel.

The first fallout game was awesome its a bit short though, you'll definately want to get the second one, its like the first in playability but there's sheds more content.

I already bought that and Planescape: Torment too, wich I haven't played yet. Three classics that I get to play first time.. When I'm done with those maybe Wasteland 2 is released. My gaming needs are covered for long time to come.

As an aside - have you played the Temple of Elemental Evil with the Circle of Eight mods/new content? It is a LOT of fun; I've just finished the main storyline and did a few of the later new content items. The Circle of Eight guys really improved on the buggy original.

No I haven't yet, though I have bought it from GOG. I'll put it on the line after FO2 and P:T with Arcanum. Wow, it seems I have missed a lot of gems back in the day.. :o Well it's time to civilize myself with proper rpg's.

HtH in Fallout is pretty awesome. There is a perk later that will make all your melee hits critical hits. It's hilarious. In the typical Fallout fashion of bodies keeling over with half of their torso gone, it's hilarious to punch someone in the groin with your powerfist and see half their head blown away. Not consistent, but definitely fun.

The ending for Fallout is very good, the end boss is very memorable. And there's a lot of replayability as well. Try a retard with only 3 INT, or a pacifist that refuses to use a weapon (it's possible, though you'll have to run away from some of the enemies).

I myself have yet to play Temple of Elemental Evil and Arcanum as well. I picked them up from GoG, but then I have so many other great old games that I'm still playing / still want to play.

After you play both the original Fallouts, you should look up the "Restoration Project" mods that are available for both. Last I checked, the one for the first game just added more mutants, but the second one has TONS of added content.
