Disabling Traps & Picking Locks

I have a 10th level thief in my party. I have reviewed all of the posts that I could find on traps and thieves. There have been several references to an icon to remove or disable traps but, I cannot seem to find or activate this icon. What am I missing? It seems that, I am also unable to figure out how to use her ability to pick locks. This probably seems like an obvious question but, I was given the game second hand by my brother and he no longer has the book that came with the game. Can anyone help?

Go into stealth mode, and then every trap you move the mouse cursor over will change it into a disarm trap icon. Same thing with picking locks, if I remember right.
