Hi all...
...this is my first run at BG I (ToTSC) 3 disk pack...I'm starting at CandleKeep Inn because; like I said, this is my first run. I am a bit into the game. I've been up to the point of getting the low down on Tranzig three times now. I have deleted all these prior runs because: a) by the time my party arrives here I have never been happy about all my party's aspects. b) I have read (and am still reading) different walk thru's of BG I; and they all offer different perspectives on what to do, where to do it, and when to do it. I have, of course, changed my parties direction and objectives in order to examine some of the more interesting threads of exploration and suggestions offered by the authors. c) I have found, installed, used, played, crashed the game, fixed the bugs, tweaked, crashed the game, fixed the bugs, and uninstalled various hacker engines, and XP cap removers. d) I have settled on playing BG I with 50th level rules and XP caps, SwordCoast Keeper, and using Dudleyville as my resource directory when I think I've completed an area or major quest. I am convinced that Imoen, Kivan, Minsc & Boo and Dynaheir will be my To Keep party. Garrick is with us because we crave music and headlines. Bards seem to be a little squirrelly in their class abilities (mediocre), but their bard song and story telling add a blessing and a dimension that no other class can offer...so for now Garrick stays... Everybody is level 3 except for Imoen (4) and Dynaheir (2). I don't expect to exceed the original XP caps for BG I, except as may be changed by having ToTSC included, for my first run at this epic adventure. Our best in game moment so far has been the rescue of Dynaheir, with Edwin included in the rescuing party; the different outcomes for each of the initial choices to answer Edwin's call for Dynaheirs destruction is well worth a ReStart for each choice. My favorite outcome is with expelling both of them from the party, Dynaheir, Minsc & Boo and Edwin have a fight of their own. It was nice to let my mouse rest, sit back and enjoy the show of these three having it out. You also get alot of background information on both Dynaheir and Edwin during their pre-fight dialogue. I'm glad I saved this game and tried it; it rocks. |

Whoops!
I went back to High Hedge and bought some arrows of detonation from Thalantyr to use in the Nashkel mines. We arrived in the Cave; and Imoen, without my PC's direction, had somehow loaded an arrow of detonation and fired it at the wrong kobold in the wrong part of the cave at the wrong time. Xan was wasted like a deep fried corn fritter before we even had a chance to talk. Whoops! I can't stand to see a good NPC wasted, even a whiner like Xan. So a re start, we'll make sure the arrow of detonation is NOT in the quiver and proceed to rescue Xan's hieney . . . |

What's your question?
Oh yeah, and do yourself a favor and skip those walkthroughs when playing for the first time. |

@ Aces...you bet Minsc and Boo won! They shredded Edwin into a dozen different body parts. When we joined with Dynaheir Edwin was far away, near the stairs leading up to the pit cells. When my PC told them all to hash it out amongst themselves Edwin comes running back to my PC, like he's going to run behind him to hide from Minsc; however Minsc & Boo intercepted him just in front of my PC and started thrashing him. My PC looked like he was touching Edwin-that's how close Edwin got before he was forced to start throwing some combat spells at M&B . . .
@Klorox...I've already tasted the forbidden fruit and what's done can't be undone. But I've bagged the advise of all the walkthru's because their objectives are not the same as mine, err at least their viewpoints and mine differ greatly and my path does not follow theirs; even though we all strive for the final goal of solving the game. BG I rocks partly because there is so much choice for so much of the game. at least so far. I hope that made sense. @Tal...yes, ... well... hrmph. I know Xan is a whiner and he's a geek of a castor, but hey; I'll let him spend out his days in the Belching Dragon. This can't but help our karma... 11 Feb ... a little off topic but, I just got BG II The Collection SoA and ToB and bonus CD (6 disk set). I have paused BG I to load and patch BG II. I have found that ToB patches SoA and that BioWare patches ToB. so I only needed one patch download from the web. the bonus CD gave me an extra merchant to buy extra stuff... also I've spent the last four hours just 'glancing' over the mounds of stuff about BG II here on SP... I can't wait to start BG II with my PC from BG I. Now, My party is currently on a hunting trip in Fire Leaf Forest as a reward for clearing the Nashkel mines of that pathetic ore poisoner Mulahey and his minions. And yes, Xan has been rescued; albeit he left in such a hurry he forgot to get Moonblade-we of course will sell it if we can $... Feb 13 update: We are still on our hunting vacation up in the southern mountains. We had to break it off though for a trip to FAI's temple to cure Samuel. Whom we picked up in the Gibberling Mtns (along with a Ring of Fire Resistance). The Fire Leaf Forest Mtns only netted us two wolf pelts, but the Dryad Falls Mtns netted us six pelts so far. I think we shall return to town; sell what we can and then clean out the Xvart village, the Bear River area, and the Gnoll Stronghold. Just to make sure we got around to everything we could. We're all level 4's now (except Imoen is a 5) and we can take it slow and easy. Durring the rescue of Dynaheir we were less skilled and pressed for time...smooth and gracefull we were not! So when we get done with all of that; then we go after Brage... [ February 13, 2005, 07:32: Message edited by: Ox ] |
