Has anyone given thought to the new dualing possiblities once TOB, with it's 8,000,000 XP cap, is installed? I just did some quick calculations of the most talked about dual-class combo (which I've never tried), the kensi-mage, and it looks like you could theorectaly dual this character at level 21 to get a level 21/22 character. Of course, they say most players won't come close to reaching the XP cap even playing through the whole game, so this might not be the most practical (plus I'd hate to endure the loooonnnggg stretch of time without the powers of the first class). Perhaps a bit more practical would be dualing at level 16 and still being able to reach a lvl 25 mage at the cap.

I just looked at this case because it was a well known example of a d/c character, but does anyone else have ideas on any interesting dual-class combos and the level to dual with the TOB XP cap? Also, there must be a point at which the wait to get both classes active isn't worth the effort (like the lvl 21/22 k/m mentioned above), where's it gonna be with TOB?

fighter/cleric is a way over looked dual, with even one 2 levels as a fighter you can get all the high bonuses for con and strength, and if you take that fighter even to level 12 before switching over you can get weapon mastery and stuff, +the 2 extra HP per level.

In addition, clerics level nicely so you can race past that last fighter level. Having the same armor allowances (everything) is also nice

Funny you should say that, I'm playing a DC F/C dualed at level 6 in BG1. I love this character, especially with the 3 tomes of wisdom you can find once TotSC is installed. Dualing at level 6 gives you just enough points as a fighter to give five points in a weapon of your choice when you import into BG2. I picked flails of course and have used the Flail of the Ages as my main weapon since I found it.

Another idea I had with the upcoming XP cap was, how about playing a cleric up to lvl 14 where they finally gain access to level 7 spells (or lvl 17 where they gain access to two lvl 7 spells per day) and then dualing to mage. Once successfully dualed this character would have access to all cleric spells and potentally all mage spells. Now if they could only dual again to a druid...

Another weird thought stuck me while thinking about dualing. Has anyone ever found the need to start a dualed character in BG1 and then finish it in BG2? I bet that'd be interesting to play. Get your character up to level 8 in BG and dual just before you confront Sarevok , then complete the dualing level up process somewhere in chap. 1 or 2 of BG2. I wonder if there'd be any dual-class combo where it'd be to your benifit to dual then? Sorry, just a weird thought I had...

I am very seriously considering starting a new solo game with a berserker cleric. the prospect of having a crom fayer weilding cleric with five prof points and a ridicuously low thaco is the very meaning of power. god i think will go and start it now!!!!!

ps: you work so hard during hundreds of hours of bg1 to each the max experience.
Don't you ever get a feeling of meaningless when you go through irenicus's dungeon and instantly get twice as much.

What the matter Avooch, tired of that hearthbreaking weak shapeshifter solu-dude?......

Solo-dude hehe hmmmmm My next Barbarian-cleric must have that name.
BTW: Dual class at level 15 barbarian. Should be enough.

I really do wish I could dual class into a barbarian or a sorcerer. I've never understood that, other than they were classes that I'm sure were added late in development and yada, yada, yada. I wanted to used shadow keeper to play around with a multi elven wizard slayer/sorcerer combo, but alas, it was not to be even with that. Anyway, I just can't see dualing at such high levels. Yeah the character would be great, but the wait would be forever. And IMO a fighter/cleric is the ultimate battle machine. A fighter/mage is more all around useful, but my evil Fighter/Priest of Talos is amazingly wicked. The priest spells compliment a fighter so well, and wielding Crom Fyer, well, not a lot will stand in your way.

Some of the classes just don't realistically lend themselves towards being a "second career". You are more or less born a barbarian, sorcerer or paladin. How many people grow up as a mage, go to the jungle at age 25, and decide to scrap it all to learn how to eat roots and run real fast!?! Also, the abilities built into these classes come from a life-time of training.

However, it is realistic to grow up a fighter or cleric, and decide to study magic or take up thievery.

Yeah, don't bother me w/ the details! This is FANTASY after all.

Personally, I would like to be able to DC into a kit, like swashbuckler or bezerker. I don't think that is too un-realistic, and it also doesn't lend itself to power-gaming.

Oh well, rules are rules!

Well I say use shadow keeper. Sure it's cheating, but honestly, who really cares. I played through once the usual way; I've payed my dues. You can choose a kit for either of your two classes. For example, you can be a human fighter D swashbuckler, ow an elven wizard slayer/mage. However, you can have only 1 kit, so that kinda rules out a berzerker/priest of talos kinda combo.

But back to my idea; couldn't (realistically) you start as a Barbarian or Sorcerer and then add another class later. I can see your point, too; maybe I've spent too much time reading the 3rd edition PHB lately

Another underrated duel class is fighter thief!! Think of all the fun you ( or in this case I have had ) doing back attacks with the fighter tables plus the hit point bonus. Put the Night's gift, a pair of boot of speed, and the protection shield that you get in the red dragons dungeon, and the clock of reflection from the Koa Toa and Nellie bar the door!! Only draw back is you can't use the Croym Faer in a back attack.
