Backstabbing and dual-wielding

Having read about this in another topic I have a question. This is my first game featuring a thief (F/T actually). Prior to this game, I rarely used backstabbing. Now, I use it all the time.
My question is this: Does the backstabbing multiplier apply to both attacks of a dual-wielding character? If so, then this would be a huge advantage.

IIRC the backstab multiplier only applies to the first attack in the round - since you leave the shadows when you stab you cannot backstab again.
I don't know how long it takes to drink a potion of invisibility, I actually doubt that you can backstab, drink a potion and backstab again in the same round.

The things look different with the ToB high level ability "assassination": Using this every melee attack this round is a backstab. When dualwielding you should have 5/2 attacks for the main weapon and one extra attack for the off-hand, resulting in 7/2 backstabs per round, more when you use haste and improved haste.

i thought that every attack until you Leave The Shadows count as a backstab, you'd have to be pretty quick though!

The point is that you leave shadows with the backstabbing ....

.... so, since no longer in shadows, no second backstab.

just one point added to above.

after you backstabbed for the first hit, the enemy usually turned his face to you.
then you can't attack FROM HIS BACK, so no more backstab, even you are still in shadow.

Actually, you can! When your foe turns to face you, quickly run half a circle around him. You then face his back again, and free to stab!

Can anyone tell me if a Swashbuckler can get the assassination ability and use it to backstab?

Yes, as a thief the swashbuckler has access to the assasination ability. When using it and engaging an enemy then, the swashbuckler deals out damage at his full backstab modifier this round

... well, admittedly, I was stupid enough to do so one day

Would the Swashbuckler's backstab score be nothing due to the fact that he cannot backstab?
i.e, you activate assassination, hit somebody and you deal normal damage, not backstab damage.
Will that happen?

Exactly, you'll have the swashbucklers full 1x damage multiplier each hit that round

And I was almost tempted to start a new game as a thief....
I'll stick with my Kensai/Mage and Pure Kensai or Wizard Slayer...
