A featured merchant could be just a person selling through Amazon. Just like on eBay except no auctions - you just set a price that you will accept. Or it could be an actual store selling through Amazon, like Target. This one sounds like a private seller calling himself 'softco' but one who has sold a lot of stuff they bought somewhere cheap. Possibly these are illegal pirate copies made in China and mailed to him. Hard to know the source on this, since he says it is a new copy. So, why so much cheaper? Maybe he just wants to make a couple dollers each sale and has to sell low to get any sales at all.

I have bought several used items this way, from 'featured merchants' with no problem. One downside, if you get directly from Amazon you can get free shipping by going over the minimum order requirement. A private seller always has postage added because they do have to pay the postage themselves. Also no guarentee how soon they will mail or if the stuff is in good condition. The 16.48 price will likely have an added 2.50 for postage. So I would just buy the one directly from Amazon if I were you. Make sure you buy something else to get the free shipping. I think 25.00 is the minimum. There has to be something else you could use.

I have bought several games from Amzon, some new and some not. I have had no problem with the items. I agree with Chas if the cost difference is minimal buy from Amzzon.

In the window you see several options of where to buy from. At the top right is a button tha says buy from Amazon. Below it are buttons to buy it from J&R Music or Gamestop. So the top choice will send directly from an Amazon wherehouse. The other two will be sent from J&R's or Gamestops wherehouse and Amazon get some kind of commission for acting as an 'agent'. When you click on the '12 used or new' then you will be buying directly from whoever and again Amazon just gets an 'agenr' commission.
The only way to get the free shipping is to use the top right button to buy straight from Amazon. As long as your order goes over $25.

I would have to say Amazon.com. I recently bought several games from them and let me tell you, cheap prices and fast shipping. Besides games bought from them are always in good shape. This is important when buying software. You can probably get BG2 for under $15 (er...whatever that would be in your country) at Amazon.
