I might try the whole "no reloading" thing again, this time with my character concept "Minnie" (who has the minimal stats for her class). I originally thought of using her as an elven Ranger, who has the highest minimal stats, but I think I'll got with her as a half-elf Cleric/Ranger. The stats aren't quite as good (elves have a high minimal INT and CHA), but those stats don't really hurt a Cleric/Ranger.

Here's a breakdown of her stats throughout the series:

STR 13
DEX 13
CON 14
INT 4
WIS 14
CHA 3

Which won't be terrible come the end of BG1:

STR 14
DEX 14
CON 15
INT 5
WIS 17
CHA 4
(+1 to all from tomes, +3 to WIS)

...and pretty good come mid-ToB:

STR 15
DEX 14
CON 16
INT 6
WIS 18 (-1 in Spellhold)
CHA 6 (or 25 with Rod of Ugly cheese!)

(+1 to all from Machine of Lum the Mad, -1 to WIS in Spellhold dream, -1 to DEX from Hell trials, +1 to WIS and CHA from Hell trials)

I'd use DuHM a lot also, and that'll really boost her effectiveness in combat!

You could get away with the extremely low CHA (shy, ugly and introverted) if your character is not going to be the leader... but 4 in INT?!
You will be in a tight spot when facing the ilithids and that could be challenging. But from a RPing point of view this doesn't make sense...
Such a low INT stat means that PC can't even speak common.

I get your point about the low stat run (and no reload, man that's a challenge) but I'd go with at least 8 in INT (not bright at all, but not retarded either).

Don't get me wrong but the minimal stats won't cripple her too much (as you pointed out you'll be using DuHM a lot) and with so many stats ehancing items I believe it can be done.

I just don't like dumping INT that much.

STR a low strength could result from a lack of exercise or a major illness.

DEX lack of balance and of training, being clumsy and all.

CON the illness thing works for a low constitution as well (or maybe some rituals performed or being exposed to poisons or dangerous potions from an early age).

WIS a low wisdom could translate as being focused on her self and not so much perceptive about her surroundings. A very low or a very high wisdom stat makes sense for a "crazy" character (either the character is totally oblivious about his/her environment or is consciousness is at such a high level that he/she couldn't pass for "normal").

CHA like I said, extremely plain or introverted with a complete lack of social skills or social grace.

I just have a problem with dumping INT below 8 for the protagonist...

That's just my opinion, I believe you could make the game even more challenging by taking another class (now a Beastmaster would be hard and you could get away with a very low CHA by arguing that this character doesn't fit with humans that well and is only comfortable with animals).

Anyway, it's a nice idea and it's certainly a change from all the powergaming builds everybody has played.

Just don't use the Rod of Terror.

By the way Have you thought about an anti-powergaming or reversed powergaming run? Giving high scores to stats a character won't really need could be fun:
imagine a Thief with only 9 pts in DEX and 18 in WIS... 21 points in WIS in SoA won't be any good for a thief but from a RPing point of view that would be almost like some sort of cosmic awareness (and could justify your extensive knowledge of the game... this PC would be psychic!)

Silverstar will become famous soon enough

Sure, go for it! I see you always manage to find some way to make your game much more interesting and challenging! It will be hard, especially against ilithids, it will be one hit KO! So be very very very careful, and you will be OK, I guess.

I don't think this game will be different from your first one.

For a change you can try to get by without omitting any side quests and without raising dead party members.

Nope. An 8 in INT gets you the same number of languages (one) as a 2, nevermind a 4. Only animal intelligence (1 INT) characters cannot speak.

Felinoid's correct, according to the Player's Handbook. Not only can a creature with 1 INT not speak in a discernable language, but it is also incapable of anything but short, instinctive, and animalistic thoughts. As for Klorox; good luck on the no-reloads attempt-- you'll definitely have your work cut out for you (no-reloads is hard enough with a power-gaming party; with Minnie getting through without dying will be practically impossible IMO).

I don't care about what a 4 gives you. The point is that I'm playing with the lowest stats possible for a very powerful race/class combo.

Originally I had considered creating an Elf Ranger, who has much higher minimum stats (an 8 in INT and CHA).
