I'm on a Doctor Who jag, so I thought of maybe breaking out the old BG2 and making a D+D version of him. I'm thinking Sorceror, with a high focus on defensive spells?

Depends on which Doctor I think. Overall, I see him as a charismatic, fast talking bard. Jon Pertwee (#3) is definitely a Blade kit.

He does not use magic. But is quite intelligent and adept at using a variety of gadgets. He is also not a great fighter. Sorry kuemper but I must disagree -- I've never heard him sing.

I don't think you can place him in the D&D world -- but he closer to a rogue (eliminate backstab and give him a good tinkering ability) than anything else. Swashbuckler is closest -- but one who prefers to avoid confrontation and find peaceful means to solve any problem (I believe only #6 really resorted to violence).

Oh, yes -- chaotic good.

Not all bards sing. The Doctor does play the recorder.

I agree with Kuemper, the doctor is a bard.He may not sing, but he certainly inspires his companions, in addition bardic lore fits perfectly with his uncanny breadth and depth of knowledge. Agreed he doesn't use magic per se, but what better substitute for the technology he has at his disposal. My only change would be that he'd be a pure bard rather than a kit, the blade and skald seem too focused on physical combat, and while listening to the doctor may be a confusing ordeal, he doesn't strike me as a jester.

I'd think of him as being a mage or a sorcerer, myself. Probably a mage.

Hmmm. In the newer programs I have an easy time thinking of Doctor Who as a Thief. With all his thief tools wrapped up in a nifty little Socket Wrench.

Little bit of fighting but he disarms traps, picks locks, Has a lot of lore and knowledge of languages.

but I think reguardless of exactly what you make him. I'd say he'd have to have a superior intelligence. Some of about 20. Higher than is naturally capable by most beings.

I wonder how Edwin would feel about having someone SMARTER than him.

Grey Elves can naturally be smarter than edwin. Having a subracial cap on their intelligence of 20. But they suffer from an even weaker constitution maxing it out at 16. But then they are the bookworms of the elves. Can't say I know how they fit into the world of the Realms exactly though. It's been a long time.
