Any sufferers here? I have spent countless hours on all IE games (except IWD), but haven't finished any of them, due to my 'condition'. It's like if I'm playing evil I want to be good (and vice versa), if I'm mage I want to be thief, when I'm thief I regret I didn't choose fighter... It's extremely annoying: I'm sick of those games, but still want to see how they end.

I'm the same (although I actually finished them). I have this problem with BG2. See I play with Tutu and I'd like to take a character all the way from Candlekeep to ToB. Only problem is that I enjoy the low level game a lot and I get bored in the middle of SoA (I've done this several times).
Whenever a character becomes too powerful I lose interest. I guess it's because there is nothing more to achieve with this character. It's even worse with IWD2. I tried to solo, I tried parties. I played a solo Sorcerer once and got bored too death before even getting to Kuldahar. I played an OotS party and that was fun. I tried themed parties (and recently lost my saves... that sucks) anyway I'm currently soloing two different characters, one good, one evil (I know that's crazy). I think the more you try to get in character (i.e. RP) the less you are likely to drop out. That or you can play a fighter/mage/thief. |

Same here. But I'm happy with my current situation. Low levels are more interesting than high levels where the game becomes repetitive. So whenever you're bored restart with a new char and enjoy the harder low levels. Don't see this as a problem, be happy with your game.

I love creating new characters, leveling them up a bit to get them going. Then I leave them hang for a while.
You should see my DnD character sheets.

I have this problem...it gets a bit annoying and I actually had to get myself addicted to BG1 to complete it
I basically played it for about 2 months in every free moment I had, and I'm glad I did, great game I lost interest in BG2, and IWD2...well the story just kills me everytime, its a bit awful, so I don't play that much if at all. I too enjoy the low level gaming experience and at higher levels I tend to lose interest, plus I just love creating characters...I think its all the buttons I get to press

I have this problem mostly with other games. I am, as a rule, not particularly fond of high-level mechanics in just about any game you can name. I don't like how people just keep getting more and more powerful forever. If I really like a game, though, I can force myself to finish it, and BG has always fallen into that category.

I have the same before I start playing. I take months to create characters sometimes. And I want to restart, as well, if I'm not too far gone. If I am, then I continue till the end and promise myself to replay the game, which I don't come through on.

Chronic restarter here. I'm incapable of playing through a gaming mistake such as missing a single item or saying a single line that is out of character for my PC. It was an absolute miracle that I made it through IWD2, NWN OC and NWN SoU. I still have failed to make it all the way through BG2, FFX and NWN HotU and frequently restart NWN OC and NWN SoU games to "better roleplay", do quests I missed or really sadly, loot treasure I missed.

I don't have this syndrome at all. Even if I paused a crpg for a year I continued where I left it. Only Sometimes I try around a bit with default parties to get the game mechanics.
It takes me usually days of gathering information and breeding over the right character(s) to play the game with, when I start the game afterwards I don't restart it anymore. |

Guilty here. BGs have this irritating way to make me feel that my character is good.... but could be even better. But when they're overuberpowerfull, I have to make a new, weaker potagonist. And this loop continues...
The best way to prevent me from doing it is to make a backstory to the character, or imagine that this is actually some other game, maybe a new Zelda or something. |

Glad to see I'm not the only one afflicted by the CRS. Interesting idea that character backstory thing, my characters always had unimaginative and thought-of-in-one-second backgrounds. Guess I subconsciously knew they won't last long.

Same here. It's a terrible affliction, in the sense that it excessively time consuming. Ah well.

Me too. I don't like missing important stuff in the game so I tend to get about 1/4 of the game done and then need to restart. After that I can usually finish it.

Not only am I a chronic game restarter, but a chronic reloader as well. If I screw anything up, say something out of character, miss an item, etc, then it's reloadin' time. It's a sickness, I tell you...

First time I started playing BG I got to the Nashkell Mines about five or six times before I finally went on to the bandit camp. Since then, if I start it I finish it (except Morrowind... so many character configurations).

Wow. I'm not alone. Often very early into a game I find myself wondering "gee, I wonder how a wizard could have handled that situation... ooh! a druid maybe could have talked to that squirrel, I'm gonna re-start as a druid just to see if the squirrel talks!"

I have created over 20 characters for NWN2 that never made it out of West Harbour.

Depends on the game; there are games such Starcraft or C&C series that I wanted to finish quick to see the story. I've played Diablo 2 for about 3 months before even killing Andariel...

I get like this only after I've finished the game at least once. Occassionaly I've restarted if I wasn't so far in the game yet but had missed a lot of stuff or did something wrong.

I hear ya. On a Jedi Academy Roleplaying server, I had about 20 different characters.
Sure, I played there for over two years and most of those 20 characters were high-rankers, but still! Then it's WoW. Over fifteen characters, only one of them over fourty, and he was fourty-two. Then the NWN server I play on, Legacy of the North. Same problem there. Max level on the server is 25, highest I have is one fourteen, then a twelve, then a ten. Then it is a looooong drop to the next one. |

I'm suffering that affliction currently with Medieval II, Total War. The game gets a lot harder when the Pope is a jerk towards you...

I stil have not finished nwn2. However, i know every pice of grass in West Harbour. I have got one cleric who just went trough the purifiying rituals. By the way I also never finished nwn1. Every time two or three words of power. Once I starte in the laqst acht and stopped just before the two dragons. I did finish bg2, but not iwd 1-2, bg1 or Torment.
