I was wondering...
Tal once said that the reason that games like Morrowind and Arcanum didn't get forums and sections on this site was, that they weren't (A)D&D games. That is okay. But I believe that KotOR should get one, as it uses the D6D rules (almost, at least D20). What are your opinions on this? |

Check one of the other KotOR topics, I brought up the same subject there. KotOR is a D20 game, which pretty much means DnD, it is just the setting which is different. The same can be said for PS:T.

Not really. See http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ult...;f=18;t=000356
I'm pretty sure I wrote an even more detailed argument somewhere, but I can't find it now. Anyway, considering how few topics about KotOR there have been in The Playground, even if we had a separate forum for it, it'd probably be more or less empty. |

I don't have KotOR yet, but I will soon, and I think a separate forum here would be nice. "If you build it, they will come." However, as you said in your link, KotOR is based on a simplified AD&D ruleset, and therefore might not really fit in with SP. Plus, you probably don't really need (or want) yet another forum to monitor. |

Adding more forums was never an issue... Adding forums without a good reason is. If we had any indication in the Playground forum that a lot of people are playing KotOR and need help with it, or want to discuss it, a new forum would be opened, regardless of actual coverage on SP.

Well, the game is so horrendously easy that anyone who has ever played another D&D/D20 based crpg will never really need any help. Except for that and that it is a bit short it is pretty much what the NWN single player campaign should have been. The engine and the general game system works really well. There is however not all that much to discuss, except for some parts of the storyline and such.

ok, here's the logic
you said if there is a significant desire/need for wanting a non-D&D game forum, you will set up one right? But, for me for example, if i encounter a problem while playing Call of Duty, i wouldn't come here (the playground) asking for help. i would go to a Call of Duty forum in the first place. So, with that said, you will never get a significant need for a new non d&d game forum to begin with, right? |

Well, that's my whole point. People don't come to SP for non-D&D things, when it's clearly a D&D-oriented site. Opening a forum for a non-D&D game isn't going to make scores of people materialize here to post in it. They'd still go to sites dedicated to the games in question. So a prerequisite for a forum here would almost definitely have to be coverage on SP.
On the other hand, my point was that if suddenly The Playground started to be filled by posts about a certain game, I'd open a forum for it and move the discussions there. |

Well said. If you opened forums for every topic that someone MIGHT want to discuss, you'd be here forever (and the Boards O' Magick front page wouldn't fit as nicely on my screen any more and I'd have to scroll too far down to see all the topics).
