Amazon mystery solved

I've just found out why my Amazon preorder of ToEE never shipped.

I checked my order, and the bonus Amazon-only map isn't scheduled to be shipped until September of 2004. That's 2004, not 2003. That's eleven months from now! And because I selected the "free shipping" deal which requires a minimum of two units to ship, Amazon wouldn't send me the game for another ELEVEN MONTHS - unless I coughed up another $6 to upgrade the shipping.

I wrote Amazon's customer service, and got this reply:

"We are still waiting to receive 'Temple of Elemental Evil Bonus Map.' ... I also see that you selected our free Super Saver Shipping option for this order. As stated on our web site, when you choose Super Saver Shipping, you can expect your order to take 3 to 5 days longer to ship than if you select our standard shipping option. This extra 3-5 days is reflected in your estimated shipment date. I apologize if this time frame was not clear at the time you placed your order."

Good heavens - "I apologize if this time frame was not clear"?!? An entire YEAR added to a pre-order?!? Forgive me for assuming that a pre-order bonus would not invalidate the whole POINT of a pre-order.

So apologies, Taluntain, but I've cancelled my Amazon order. Hope you haven't already spent that fifty-cent commission.

Nah, commissions only get paid out every 3 months anyway. And Amazon really screwed this up, so there's nothing I can do.
