What's this about a trust fund anyway, the victim did not have any dependants, nor is he in any urgent need of money (being dead will do this) so what is the justification for paying the family of the deceased.

I'm going to try to seek some clarification: are you REALLY...complaining or criticizing the fact that some neighbors are voluntarily and freely trying to set up a fund, probably a small one, to help some other neighbors after a tragedy? From reading your post I thought there must be a gov't fund or a legal battle or something of that ilk. There isn't. There are just some neighbors who have decided they'd help some other neighbors. All that is happening is freely given charity - what is the problem with that?

And personally, I really don't think this incident demonstrates any type of "hell in a handbasket" trend, but that may just be me.

I agree with Laches - it doesn't really support the "hell in a handbasket" statement.

However, this just shows that what we need are gun control laws.

...Wait a minute! We have them. And we spent a fortune setting them up! In fact, it was over budget (net of fees) by a factor of about 400. And to think that I was in favour of them initially.

(note to reepnorp - sorry. I don't want to highjack your thread and turn it into a debate on gun controls, but they just seem to be related to the story in your link.)

I am questioning the relevance of the charity to the accident. Funeral expenses I can understand but not why other people feel they should pay for them.

Call me when you have kids hunting each other through secondary school cafeterias.

Isolated. Incident.
