FiringSquad has interviewed Dr. Henry Jenkins, who deals in comparative media studies. Here's a snip:
FiringSquad: First, how did you become interested in learning more about media like games affect culture?
Dr. Henry Jenkins: The first thing you have to recognize is that I was a media fan well before I was a media scholar. I call my blog, Confessions of an Aca/Fan, to signal that I look at popular culture from that dual perspective -- as an academic who is also a fan. As such, the media I study more often than not is media that I care about on a deep, personal level. I study media that touches some aspect of my everyday life. And I study media, first and foremost, from the perspective of a consumer. This is true even when, or perhaps especially when, I am also interested in understanding the motives of media producers. My new work, then, is centrally concerned with the shifting relationships between media producers and consumers.
