Microsoft's Peter Moore has admitted Microsoft's partial fault in the PC game industry's decline and has promised to remedy the situation with the upcoming Windows Vista. Here's a (lengthy) clip:

Moore said, "It's a dereliction of duty. We've been distracted. It's not helped that the PC market has seen some challenges."

He said that Microsoft's recent reorganization would help the company "focus on the games business as a standalone business."

"Previously, we operated under separate units," he said. "Everything is now being brought together to build truly cohesive, integrated marketing."

"The future is about PC games and Vista is at the vanguard of that."

He said that Vista would drive PC upgrades which would help game sales, and gave an impressive demonstration of how Vista improves the gaming experience through better file organization.

Smart business move. Somewhere I saw a survey that 2/3's of parents play games. Many with their children. Gaming is no longer child's play.

IIRC middle-aged women make a bigger share of game players than teenage boys, according to one survey. And that survey was the subject of a news post somewhere in this forum some time ago.

True Chev, I recall that too.

IIRC the survey I saw was dealing with the cRPG/RTS that is getting flack.

At this point I would be willing to bet that the majority of game players are over 18 and Microsoft is wising up to were the money is.
