What´s your favourite weapon. Or rather, what do you think is best for a barbarian? I´m thinking two weapons.
I want to use crom faeyr and celestial fury. But that doesn´t go to well with the roleplaying part of beeing a barbarian...

Instinctively I'd say the blade of shaving (+2 on chr) .... but no .... IMHO I think barbarians should use axes, maces, FLAILS (flail of the ages & defender of easthaven) and large dangerous things like halberds or two-handed swords.
Katana´s are too sophisticated, just like longswords are too civilised for them. In ranged weapons I´d suggest the longbow to other ranged weapons, I think crossbows are too sophisticated for a barbarian. Additionally I think a barbarian should fight in melee, fiths the role better than ranged weapon fighting. [This message has been edited by Ragusa (edited June 28, 2001).] |

I think the large barbarians (human, half-orc etc.) should use the two handed sword or halberd and the short barbarians (e.g. dwarf) should us an axe

Oh, yes about short and full sized barbarians: I prefer the dwarf to the half-orc for three reasons:
(a) dwarfs can get 19 con as well and 18/00 str (so he´s -1 damage behind the str-19 half orc) and (b) dwarfs get better saving throws than half-orcs. Choosing wis-18 for your dwarf he´ll be pretty resistant to spells, advantgeous as I found. (c) even a chr-2 dwarf looks better than any half orc |

My Half-Orc barbarian dual wielded 2 axes, both +3 one with fire damage and the other with cold and acid. it was pretty effective. He kicked a Tana'ri ass by himself, without anysort of healing or spells that helped him.

Think barbarians are not that funny, though I'd use some slow-speed weapon with lots o damage, like a halberd or something...

I prefer Helforcs rather than dwarfs:
a)+1 in str b)the same constitution as dwarfs c)Have only one penalty in wis and int and those don't affect saving throws. d) They can romance, dwarfs can not. And BTW I agree about the katanas. That's almost as bad as elven berzekers with halbards. [This message has been edited by Vicsun (edited June 28, 2001).] |

There are 2, no 3, natural choices for a barbarian.

Greatsword (AKA 2-Handed Sword)
Great Axe (a standard wee-axe will do in this game)
Club (A big, heavy club, a small oak's trunk shall be sufficient)[/list]BG2 Choice: 2-Hander, Dual-wield Axes [This message has been edited by ayecapitan (edited June 29, 2001).] |

Mmm... hot tea!

Absolutely Two Handed Swords!
If you're a short Barbarian War Hammer would be suitable. |

If you want a decent halberd - try the Wave or the Dragon's Breath. Unfortunately these are found about half way through the game, so you'll need something before them. I've never actually used the wave ( I always do the Sahugain city the *good* way, but I've heard its quite good).

You can steal it with Imoen (gloves of pick pocketing)

Wave's unique properties are no that practical in game (same about The Capper +1;+4 vs. giantfolk, partially Crom, but who cares if it raises yer strenght to the amount of mature white dragon
), so Dragon's Breath would be a better choice, methinks. It (DB) is also ultimatewly useful against spellcasters who have fancy abjurations cast on them.

What the hell is with the arguing? Of course you need a BIG DAMN SWORD! Id say vorpal, or lilacor until chap 6, even if you have a drawf BGII doesnt check weapon vs creature sizes. I had mazzy weilding it!

I'd give my barb. The Wave if i want a 2-h. weapon; Flail of Ages and a good mace/warhammer if i want him to have single handed weapons.

I`m thinking of using Crom Faeyr and perhaps a longsword?
hmm. There are much better 1-handed swords than there are 2-handed if I remember correctly. Is The Equaliser a good choise? thx for all the answers! |

IMO the Equalizer is not so powerful thinking all the time it requires to be made....there are certainly better weapons in the game. When i use longswords i always end using the one you get from the lich in Amn (don't remember the name now....)

Well, then. What should I pick instead of the equaliser?

If you really want to use long sword, use the one i mentioned above.
But i'd change proficiencies and choose, for a barbarian, flail in order to use the Flail of ages....the Crom Fayer+Flail of Ages combo is the best you can have in the game IMO. |

I´ve been thinking and... I might just as well use cram faeyr and a shield to regain some of the lost ac. What do you think?

Shields are good in SoA, but when i gain a powerful weapon i hate not to use it....for example there's noone between the NPC that can use (in a good way) halberds....so when i get the Wave i'm really in a bad mood.
Moreover, if you place the Flail of Ages in the off hand you always have the opportunity of slowing the enemy...and with any good weapon (even before Crom Fayer) in the main hand, you have a great chance of dealing a lot of damage. Let me know your final decision...

Hey, initially it was about a barbarians' weapon. Longsword is elven, and elves are not known for excessive rage, nope. Warhammer? Call a dwarf, he'll take it. Let barbarian wield a greatsword, as he should!
