Black Bear vs Brown bear shapeshifting. What's the difference?

Something I've been trying unsuccessfully to figure out for a while now is what is the difference between changing Jaheria (or any other Druid) into a black bear vs a brown bear? The only difference I can see is the color. Why didn't they give a different option like a poisonous snake, or something that can scout like a cat instead of two identical options with only cosmetic differences?

If somebody can tell me the pros and cons of changing into black bears vs brown bears, I'd appreciate it.

Everything I could find says the two are the same. You'd think the brown bear would be more powerful....

It definitely should be. Grizzlies are scary!

But the Black Bear should get a CHA bonus. They're so freakin' cute (I recently switched jobs, and instead of driving past NYC, I drive through the boonies of NJ, and have already seen a few of them crossing the roads out there!).

This may not be the right forum, but are there any mods to give standard druids other shapechanges such as becoming a poisonous snake, or a panther like Odea in IWD2? Perhaps a cat or something that can sneak around?

Yes, I know about playing the Avenger, but I always thought normal druids got gypped with only those three shapechanges. P&P D&D lets you become just about any animal you want.
