Has anybody tried this out? I always preffered BG because of the better plot and banter, but have completed it so many times I thought it was time to give IWD another shot. The mod sounds promising and I was wondering what people thought about it; I'm looking for something that can make the games as BGesque as possible.

I really like this mod and consider it very well written.
IMO, the characters are interesting, there are fun banters and player initiated talks. Romances are an option too. I like the way the chars react to where you are, comment on quests or ask you questions. Usually the banters take place upon entering an area, so don't rush in. There might be less banters then in BG, but they are quite enjoyable. I don't know how "BG-esque" it will make the game for you, but the few runs I had with it certainly were fun and memorable, and I got quite attached to that party of mine. As a matter a fact, I still have the mod installed with my game. So, a warm recommendation from me. Try it out. |

I was ready to be disappointed before installing this mod - the quality of amateur writing can be quite dismal at times. What's to be expected from a bunch of unpaid volunteers after all?
However this mod has so far greatly surpassed my expectations. I'd say my favorite part overall is the contextual dialogue which refers to the current environment - greatly improves ones sense of immersion. I'm looking forward to trying out some of the other similar mods for IWD2 and the like in future. |

It's very good, but then Kulyok's mods always are. She's a bit of a modding whiz.
![]() The downside is that there are only the 5 NPCs (the IWD2 project by Domi has 10, I think, so bears some repeat playing) but 4 of the characters are romanceable and 2 of them will romance each other if you don't intervene. Best order to play is IWD regular plot, up until you're a high enough level to go to Lonelywood (I usually get there just before Lower Dorn's Deep), then immediately do the TOLM, then the main Heart of Winter story, then return to Kuldahar and finish Lower Dorn's Deep and the finale. The end boss is a bit too easy that way but you'll get the best of the mod NPCs that way also. You'd think that as none of the NPCs are mages you are forced to be one yourself, but I actually found the bard's spellcasting was sufficient to cover my magic needs (bards are much better in this than in BG2 where they're a bit pants, really). I generally prefer to play fighters, so that's what I did. Have fun - it's a really nicely put together mod. |

Cheers, I think I will try this out then, I just got myself a copy of NWN2 for £5 so maybe that first, but I will definitely give this a shot at some point.

I've been playing with this mod installed for a couple of days and I think it's brilliant. I think I'm planning to go through it the way Cal described it as I've not even played TotLM or finished HoW despite owning them for years.
Spoiler! |

If you want to fully upgrade Jhonen's sword you need to completely finish the main IWD campaign before you start HoW. Starting HoW from within Kuldahar does not allow you to get all the upgrade.
