HoW problem

Ive recently installed Icewind Dale, and Heart of Winter, played ID right through, but when it came time for me to wind walk through to Heart of Winter, an ingame screen appears saying 'no disc in drive, plave DVD in drive'.
I have installed both of them on full, even tried downloading TotL, but being fairly unsure, cant figure out how to get it from a RAR file to the actual game.
So know I got 2 problems!!
Anyone able to help me out?

I recommend WinRAR if you ever intend to RAR things yourself as well.

awesome one problem fixed
didnt fix the 'place dvd in drive' problem tho
still unable to play the HoW and TotL goodness
i can only enjoy the new portraits for so long
i will recheck the Faq's

Doesn't putting the HoW DVD/CD work ?
Although I did a full install on my computer I still had to put the HoW CD into the disk drive, it's some kind of copy protection so you can only play it if you have the disc.

na, no good. its as if it thinks that there isnt a dvd/cd in there at all!
have tried both the HoW and IWD disc several times(a day)

I'm not sure if this willll help, but make sure you put it in the drive you installed it with. I haven't checked in awhile, but IIRC the screen should say "Place disc in drive" and then D:\ or H:\ or whatever drive you installed it in.

If worst comes to worst you can reinstall it (but opt to keep your save games).

Edit - Actually, can you see the disc at all? Can you browse through the CD and look at the files on it, etc? It doesn't seem to be your cd drive itself, because the original disc works. I'm afraid you might have to resort to getting a new HoW CD

Does your problem also occur if you start a new HoW game ?

Creating a new HoW, or going through Kuldahar, same result, 'Icewind Dale no disc in drive place dvd in drive', but doesnt say which drive to place in(although is in the same drive as i installed it on).
Get this tho, this totally confuses me even more, i uninstalled IWD & HoW, reinstalled both of them on minimum, saved games had gone, but HoW winter actually worked watched the video clip and met Hjolldar in Lonelywood. Stoked to get it working, but not happy bout being back to level 1 with no equipment!! Rebooted the computer, started game back up, saved games were back, but back to the same problem with getting to HoW, 'Icewind Dale no disc in drive place dvd in drive'.

It seems to be an issue with your saved game I'm sorry you have this problem! I hope you can figure out how to make HoW work with your saved game. (Maybe make new characters, level them with the console and give them the same equipment? Or try exporting/importing your whole party into a new HoW game. Though, you'd have to complete the whole vanilla game before moving on to HoW this way)

Does it work if you start the game by inserting the disc ?

not sure if it is a problem with my saved games, as i cant even create a new HoW game after rebooting(after i got it working by installing on minimum). its a very strange and an annoying problem. could it be a problem with my pc, its fairly new, maybe its windows vista? i know that has caused alot of other graphic problems etc.

Do an advanced search in the IWD forum for "Vista". A search for "insert" might also show if others had your problem and how they solved it.
