The movie is filled with cliches: The movies is set in Ireland and all the Irish either drink whiskey or beer; the only way to gain respect is to fight for it; Wayne plays a boxer who retired after killing a man in the ring (so he won't fight and everyone thinks he's a wimp).

Another quote from the movie:

"Two women in that house and one of them a redhead."

A slight referring both Wayne and his wife (Maureen O'Hara) as women.
