Default How well would this game work on a system that doesn't like NWN2?

I have a quad-core Gateway 4200DX purchased new in Janruary of 2009 with an ATI Radeon 3450 graphics card and 6gb of regular RAM.

Neverwinter Nights 2, by the same company that makes Dragon Age does not work very well on my system. I need to use the minimum settings, even though I should have plenty of power for the game. Especially considering that the game is several years older than the computer.

I've been hearing good things about Dragon Age, but I'm reluctant to buy it after the disappointment of Neverwinter Nights II. Can I expect the same bad framerate problems with Dragon Age that I get with NWN2? I'm reluctant to buy something current if it turns out my system isn't up t o snuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong but NWN2 was made by Obsidian and the original NWN was made by Bioware.

I haven't played NWN2 but DAO runs very smoothly at maxed settings on my laptop (Vista 32 matching the recommended specifications below).

Quote:
System Specs (PC and Mac)
Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.4Ghz or greater
AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 1.8Ghz or greater
RAM: 1GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X850 128MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

Windows Vista Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows Vista with SP1
CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 2.2GHZ or greater
RAM: 1.5 GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X1550 256MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

Recommended Specifications
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4Ghz Processor or equivalent
RAM: 4 GB (Vista) or 2 GB (XP)
Video: ATI 3850 512 MB or greater
NVIDIA 8800GTS 512 MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space
You shouldn't have problems running it with a fairly recent PC.

I'm having slight frame-rate issues with DA:O (don't even get me started on NWN2), even though my pc has double the minimum specs needed, and 4x better graphics needed.

Would it run smoother if I upgraded from XP to Windows 7?

I can't really help as I'm not an expert with computers. XP is less greedy so in theory it should work better with this OS. Your problem might be related to your card (a wild guess on my part). Some series are not meant for gaming. Updating drivers may help.

Just make your PC drivers are fully up to date because if you are using an older drive your system is not optimize for gaming.
