So i have a custom party. Started it in multiplayer, moved it to single player.
My PC is a LG Paladin. Party is all either CG or LG, no neutrals or evil. I'm hunting down the ranger for the cowled wizards, and I can't in good conscience kill him & he refuses to surrender peacefully. (i understand there is no loss of reputation, that's not the issue) The only non-violent solution is to allow this guy to join my party... I assume that this might be a similar problem/issue later in the game, or so i suspect. Anyway, so here it is... my question = If i remove a custom character from my party, is there a way to keep them stationary or re-acquire them again later? i.e. Find them at the Copper Corronet? If the answer to that is "No", and I am forced to kill the ranger to retrieve his body for the wizards, is there going to come a time where i have no choice but to add some other NPC to my party? I.e. am i forced to add Imoen if i go & save her? or... anyone else ever? I'm not asking about the character sacrifice thing, i've briefly heard about (but don't know about yet), i don't want to hear any more about that just yet. Thanks in advance! ------------edit------------ well, i went into the copper coronet, saved my game, kept my party wedged against the exit & moved one of my characters to the very back of the bar, in a room & closed the door. i removed him from the party & left the bar, then immediately left the city to get the ranger to open the sphere... i went back in the bar & my character was still there, with gear intact. i went to the sphere's door & opened it with the ranger in the party, then immediately returned to the C.C. & gathered my original party. I entered the sphere & encountered no problems of quest progression or dialogue problems... STILL... I would like an answer to the original question, if anyone has one, obviously I have temporarily skirted the issue, but I'm not sure that I will be able to use this method in all cases. PS - damn... that planar sphere quest was harder than killing the Shadow Dragon (which i wasn't forced to fight anyway). OUCH! ------------edit------------ ---------- Added 9 hours, 23 minutes and 22 seconds later... ---------- I guess you can leave a custom party member anywhere you like & they will stay there... the trick is making sure that they DONT talk to you, after you dismiss them, otherwise they disappear forever. Another thing that makes this hard is they seem to auto-target your PC for dialogue upon dismissal and they will actually follow you from zone to zone... I dunno what the magic trick is to stop them, perhaps exiting the city... I'm not sure. This is hardly a satisfactory solution, if anyone knows a way to easily dismiss a custom member & get them to rejoin later, plz let me know. |

You would have to alter the file MULTIJ.dlg if you wanted that option all the time.
Would mean learning a bit of WEIDU code on how to add states to dialogue - unless you don't plan to use any mods at all. Otherwise kicking them out when they are unable to start conversation is your best bet, holding or muting might be handy. |

One of the ease of use type mods has a component to deal with this.

BG2 Tweaks mod also has such a component, actually it has most every component of Ease of Use and even many more cool options. A mandatory install for me.
