    [IMG]What we asked:

Q: Which of the Dragon Age: Origins DLC do you own?
    (1391 votes total)

The Stone Prisoner (included with a new retail copy) (177) 82.33%
Blood Dragon Armor (included with a new retail copy) (174) 80.93%
    Warden's Keep (147) 68.37%
    Return to Ostagar (137) 63.72%
    Witch Hunt (114) 53.02%
    Leliana's Song (108) 50.23%
    Golems of Amgarrak (94) 43.72%
    Darkspawn Chronicles (90) 41.86%
    Feastday Gifts (75) 34.88%
    Feastday Pranks (75) 34.88%
Dragon Age Journeys items (Embri's Many Pockets, Amulet of the War Mage, Helm of the Deep) (74) 34.42%
The Lucky Stone (Character Creator item) (67) 31.16%
Mark of Vigilance (amulet with purchase of DA T-shirt) (28) 13.02%
None (got the game used) (23) 10.70%
    Xbox Avatar Items (8) 3.72%

[This was a multiple choice poll (215 voters total), so the percentage total does not conform to the standard 100%.]

The Stone Prisoner and Blood Dragon Armor are obviously the most widely owned DLCs as they were included with new retail copies, but even here quite a few people either didn't get them (used or otherwise obtained copies), or simply didn't know or remember that it was included in the box.

Warden's Keep, the DLC available at the time of the game's release, was purchased by more than 2/3 of the original game's buyers, closely followed by Return to Ostagar, released a few months later. Return to Ostagar was only slightly less successful sales-wise than Warden's Keep, according to our poll.

Witch Hunt and Leliana's Song DLCs were each purchased by around a half of the poll participants. Golems of Amgarrak and Darkspawn Chronicles were only mildly less successful, each being bought by more than 40% of the poll participants.

Feastday Gifts & Pranks were purchased by slightly more than 1/3 of those who voted.

The remaining DLC was either available freely or part of various promotions and exclusive offers and is owned by the least of the poll's voters, though the Dragon Age Journeys items and The Lucky Stone are each still owned by around 1/3 of the game's owners.

Less than 11% of the game's owners do not own any Dragon Age: Origins DLC.

This poll was a real eye opener in terms of exposing quite clearly that downloadable content is a gigantic gold mine for game developers such as BioWare - probably much more so than most of us have realized. While the complaints over various DLC are always numerous and vocal, the majority of the game owners wind up purchasing at least 50-70% of the DLC available, which, in terms of development, marketing and distribution cost vs. financial gain, is likely significantly more successful than traditional full-blown expansion packs.

Since being able to say "no" to the new goodies that game developers put up for sale is quite obviously an impossibility for the majority of the gamers, DLC is not likely to ever go away now that it has found its way into most gamers' hearts. Much to the chagrin of many others, I'm sure...

What´s this? An advertisment for DLC politics? Honestly, the thing i take from this survey is, the only DLC which was distributed to the main part of the gamers, was the one which was already included. (Wardens Keep too, since it was included in the collectors edition). For the rest, nearly half of the players to two thirds of them couldn´t be bothered to buy the - qualitative mostly not so good - dlcs.
It´s always how you look at things.

Advertisement? More like an observation of fact. I'm not sure what exactly you consider the "main part" of the gamers, but I doubt that boxed expansions packs reach significantly larger numbers of the fans. Certainly not everyone who's bought the original game would also buy any (let alone most) expansions.

Warden's Keep was available "free" only to the buyers of the Digital Deluxe Edition (i.e. non-boxed Collector's Edition), which is merely one of the many versions of the game. I wrote "free" because you actually bought it there too, as its price was included in the higher price of that particular edition.

Keeping in mind that actual expansion DLC (as opposed to cheap minor trinkets) ends with the Darkspawn Chronicles on the list above, "how you look at things" really has nothing to do with it.

I believe most purchased DAO DLC because it was such a good game; however, if a game is a flop the % of DLC purcahsed will be lower. I wonder what % will be for DA2, especially if the first story DLC is not good or does not really add anything to DA2. Did you forget to ask if the gamer purchased DAO Ultimate Edition which included all of the DLCs? This would impact the votes or if the gamer purchased each on individually.

When we started the poll, the Ultimate Edition wasn't available yet.

I agree, the game has to be good in the first place for DLC to sell well. It'll be interesting to see what the results will be when we run a similar poll for DA2.

DAO ultimate edition was released in late 2010.

Dang... for some reason I thought it was released only recently. It doesn't really invalidate the poll in any way, but the conclusions I drew from the results are likely a bit off. Maybe a subsequent poll to see how many people have bought the DLC piecemeal vs. in the Ultimate Edition...
