Issue with Hamachi VPN

A few years ago I would play BGII with friends using the Hamachi VPN to generate the IP addresses for the Host computer so we could log in.

I tried to load it up today and it is doesn't work anymore. It can't even locate the network we made for it. It's like it doesn't exist or something.

Is there a similar program people use for multiplayer games, or do you just use the actual IP adress of each others computers?

When my friend's and I tried to use the actual IP address, it wouldn't connect. We had to use a VPN like the one Hamachi can create.

Seems that Hamachi is no longer free. There appears to be free VPN software out there (SocialVPN seems match what you are looking for) though I have not used any of them.

It is likely (if you have any sort of LAN) that your computer's IP address is for a private network of the form 192.168.X.X, and as such will not be propagated via the internet which is why you cannot connect to your friend's computer that way.

Thanks for the update on hamachi's status. Figured something like that was going on.

I'll give gameranger a try.

I'll have to wait till tomorrow to test it though.

You can still get Hamachi for free, might be called Hamachi 2 though, I know I had a bit of fun trying to find it when I got my new laptop. It still works currently though.
