(I forgot where to put posts that would formerly be in the "infinity engine modding" forum. I think they belong here, if not I apologize.)
I've been using the TeamBG 2DA editor for years, but I just tried to make a minor tweak to let my Sorceress named Lina Inverse use a short sword when I discovered that there were no scrollbars in XP. I tried rebooting the dual-boot system to 98 and the scrollbars appeared. Putting the computer back in XP, I tried reinstalling the program, but again, when I opened WeapProf.2DA, there were no scrollbars. I can somewhat compensate with Page Up/Page down for vertical scrolling, but it's really cumbersome for horizontal scrolling using only the arrow keys. Worse, the last row and column are out of sight in the window. Given the age of the program and the engine, I'm sure this is a known issue, but I couldn't spot anything in the readme file. What do people running XP use to modify 2DA files quickly and easily anyways? I've never had an issue when I ran the game under Windows 98SE. I know you can theoretically use Notepad, but often the line breaks are in the wrong format and it's a BFM when you open it. |

Crimson Editor/Emerald Editor for the editing. Ditto Near Infinity?
Have you tried Compatibility Mode for the program? Right click when looking at the file in Windows Explorer. |

I'm unfamiliar with the Crimson Editor/Emerald Editor, and failed to locate it on SP. Could you please give me a link to this superior 2DA editor?

Neither editor is found on Sorceror's Place. They are script editors, text editors customized for handling scripts.
Homepage for Emerald Editor is: http://crimson.emeraldeditor.com/ Ditto Near Infinity is external to SP too: http://www.idi.ntnu.no/~joh/ni/ This will be handy for any bugs or general queries about quests you may have. |

BTW, would it help anyone if I posted screenshots of the program in both OSes on the same computer? I did try the compatibility options, but they had no effect. The only one I didn't try was the 640x480 option. |

I think Voy meant places like Pocket Plane Group and Gibberlings 3, which are very much meant for modding.
Near Infinity should work for 2DA files. |
