Default BioWare - To Bioware's Defense - Editorial @ Forbes

Erik Kain from Forbes has written an editorial entitled "In Defense of Bioware."

Here's his main argument:
Personally, I think the gaming industry would be worse for wear without BioWare. Already, many people believe that EA purchasing BioWare in the first place was a tragedy but if BioWare were to be shut down, I think a lot of great potential for new games would be lost. Role-playing games in particular would take a serious blow.

Some reasonable points, I suppose.

I think the writer is taking some of the fan comments along the lines of "Bioware is dead to me" a little too literally. Sure, pissed off customers say such things while their emotions run high. But if Bioware would just get back to making the kind of games that their fans love I have little doubt that the vast majority of the "RIP Bioware crowd" would start laying their money on the table again.

They just need sort out their identity crisis, and stop trying to turn their popular single player RPGs into MMOs, and other such nonsense. Whether or not EA will allow that to occur is another question entirely. Should the ritual suicide continue, it will be painful to watch.

The future of Bioware is shrouded in shadows. (For lack of better words)

The result of this 'identity crisis' remains yet to be seen. And EA's influence over it.

Remember Origin? The company that made the Ultima series. EA bought that one, turned it into an mmo server. Look where it is now. Dead. Their last titles were utter crap too.
Westwood Studios was another one. Was great untill EA bought it. I won`t be surprised if Bioware is next in line.
