Project Eternity - Sorcerer's Place Fundraiser?

To help ensure that Project Eternity meets all its stretch goals and to immortalize the Sorcerer's Place community in the game (e.g. via a NPC, weapon, artifact, or a combination of these), we're gauging the level of interest in such a donation drive.

If you'd like to see this happen, please VOTE IN THE POLL and specify how much money you'd be willing to donate for this purpose. This is NOT going to happen unless there is some worthwhile support for it from our users, so please SPREAD THE WORD about the poll to anyone that you think might be interested!

We would need to raise a minimum of $1000, but the more we raised, the more "SP" content would end up in the game.

Q: So what is this "Project Eternity" anyway?

A: Project Eternity is an isometric, party-based CRPG set in a new fantasy world developed by Obsidian Entertainment. For more information, please view the video and read the details about the game at the Project Eternity Kickstarter page and Marceror's excellent The Official, Unofficial, BoM Project Eternity Information Thread.

Q: Is Sorcerer's Place going to get rich from all this fundraiser money?

A: No. Sorcerer's Place is collecting the fundraiser money merely for the purpose of forwarding it to the Project Eternity Kickstarter as a single "Sorcerer's Place community" donation. We won't keep a dime of it. In fact, we're going to contribute our own money to it as well!

Q: How much money are you aiming for?

Our initial goal is $2000 USD. Depending on how fast we manage to reach this sum, we might announce a larger "stretch goal" of our own.

Q: What's in it for me?

You mean the knowledge that you've helped immortalize the Sorcerer's Place community in what's bound to be a great new CRPG from the creators of such gems as Planescape: Torment, Arcanum, Icewind Dale & Baldur's Gate series, etc. is NOT ENOUGH? Sheesh!

Well, how about we also give you a 3-month SPS account (or extension) if you donate $25 or more? Done!

You'll also get our undying (undead?) gratitude, as well as an ETERNAL LISTING OF YOUR USERNAME ON THIS PAGE. That's how everyone else gets to see how awesome you are. Ha!

And best of all, the top 30 donors will also get a digital copy of the game (should they require it). At present, this means that any donation of $20 or more will also get you a copy of the game! Please note, however, that as more people donate, the limit for inclusion in the top 30 will also rise.

We'll also reward you with a unique PE achievement icon, visible in all your forum posts!

Q: How much should I donate?

Well, obviously the more the better! But any sum is welcome - you're free to choose.

Q: What is the community getting out of all this?

NAME AND DESIGN AN NPC (Non-Player Character).

Help us design PROJECT ETERNITY! We will send you a PROJECT ETERNITY NPC character sheet for you to fill out for our design team. We will turn your personalized character design, with your name, class, and race into an NPC in the shipped game (within reason of course). You will also receive The Complete Kickstarter Obsidian Pack ($500 reward tier) + 5 EXTRA DIGITAL DOWNLOADABLE COPIES OF PROJECT ETERNITY to gift your friends and family.

Option #2:

Pledge $1,000 or more

HELP DESIGN AN EPIC HIGH LEVEL WEAPON, ARMOR OR ARTIFACT.

Help us design PROJECT ETERNITY! Your personalized item will be used by thousands of players and will be one of the best in the game. You can provide the lore, look, and type of the item (within reason), and we will put it in the shipped game. You will also receive The Complete Kickstarter Obsidian Pack ($500 reward tier) + 5 EXTRA DIGITAL DOWNLOADABLE COPIES OF PROJECT ETERNITY to gift your friends and family.

Option #3: A combination of option #1 and #2.

What we'll end up going with is yet to be determined, as are all the details.

Q: How long is this fundraiser going to last?

At least until the time that Obsidian's own Kickstarter campaign ends, so until October 16, 2012.

Q: What do I do, I've already pledged directly to the Project Eternity Kickstarter?

A: You can always revoke your pledge there and join our collection if you feel like it. Or, you can donate here as well. However, please realize that we will most likely NOT be able to secure a copy of PE for everyone who has donated via our own fundraiser, but the copies that we do get, we will distribute among the most generous donors.

Tbh I'd rather my donation money went into SPs coffers, but it would be kinda cool if we could get enough to have a little piece of SP in the game, in some form or another. So if I can wait until October with donating and people are interested, then I'm game.

This would primarily be collected via PayPal, yes (though all the other donation options that we have available would also work).

One thing to note is that most likely we would not be able to get everyone who donated a copy of the game unless we could make some special arrangement with Obsidian, though that would likely depend on the amount raised.

I don't mind not getting a copy; I was going to pledge for a digital copy anyways. I would not be averse to the SP staff getting first dips. They deserve something for their hard work and dedication .

Otherewise a contest of some sort could be fun.

So far, it's been listed as a PC exclusive, but the more money they collect, the more likely it'll also be ported to tablets.

Even if we only collected $1000, we'd get 6 digital copies plus a bunch of extra stuff by default, so we could distribute that randomly among those who donated, or to those who donated the most for example.

As for the SP content, why not a nice gesture by trying to fit in names of our deceased, like Kit and Sir Bel for example.

Huh? What ads are you getting? The GOG D&D sale one was a public service announcement so that anyone who hasn't got all those games yet could get them on the cheap. And the ad is dismissable with a click of a button. The only reason SPS account holders are seeing that ad is because I figured a lot of them would like to know about such an unprecedented sale. Unfortunately I can never please everyone.

I'd agree with this. It's not one of those 'things you may also like' - it's 'things we know should interest you, otherwise we wouldn't even put it here'. I guess technically it's a form of advertisement, but in terms of annoyance level, I could barely recognize it as such. If ads were all like this, I'd have no problem with pop-ups either.
The slashed prices are significant, as well as getting them all together. It was definitely interesting.

Just click on the X once and WAIT for the ad to collapse (=go away). You do it once and it's gone for good. Might take quite a few seconds as the server's overloaded but once it's gone, it's gone for good. If you still can't get rid of it, just let me know and I'll see if I can disable it for you manually.

I doubt Silvery uses the rest of the site much (and there's no X there either). I couldn't find any quick and easy way to make the ads dismissable on non-forum pages, but they'll be going down in 3 days anyway - hopefully nobody will be too annoyed by them until then.
