I was going to start a game as a half-elven female swashbuckler (Lawful Neutral) and have decided to specialize in two handed weapon style. My only question is: what weapon? I realize there aren't very many good katanas and scimitars, so would the one-handed sword be better?
I haven't had any experience with theives so I'm hoping someone will help me. [ August 22, 2002, 06:07: Message edited by: Blackthorne TA ] |

Hey, here's a thread:
http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ult...=005261#000000 Also, while katanas may not be as numerous as some of the other weapon classes, there are some excellent ones and you can get one of the primo weapons in the game in this class pretty early. There are also a couple of excellent scimitars. Personally, I like having my thieves use shortswords and daggers. There are excellent options there as well. I'm not going to list the options or go into any more detail simply because I'm not sure how familiar you already are with the game and wouldn't want to spoil anything. Best bet: pick a weapon that you enjoy and would think would be fun to fit into the concept of your character and go with it. Best of luck. |

Well, two-handed weapon style aint very good to use with katanas. I assume that you mean the "two-weapon" style. The only katana I can think of is the celestial fury, which is a +3 weapon.

I thought that the only two handed weapon (besides missile weapons) that a thief can use is a staff? Am I missing something?

No Walker, u have not missed anything. I think what we have here is just a "print error". Two-handed weapons instead of Two Weapon style. That's all.

Celestial fury +3? I strongly doubt that. It's +2 IIRC.
Ohw, it is +3? Hmm, I'm probably confused with beating kangaxx which won't work. Sheesh, I should have checked that before posting it. [ August 22, 2002, 20:17: Message edited by: StressedE ] |

Spell like that and you will be sorry.
Celestial Fury is a +3 weapon btw, and I'd advise you to go for either Katana's or Scimitars (they just look so awesome on a thief!). The best weapons however lie on the Longswords and Axes profeciencies (you'd be surprised). Other than that, go for what you like. |

are there any good axes in the game? Like +4 or something? I don't want to wield stonefire, frostreaver or that goodie axe in cc. k?

Celestial fury(+3
) in main hand and Belm +2 in off hand this way you will get 3 attacks per round + haste = 4 attacksDid you say what a shame it is that Kivan went away? You can get him back with TDD ![]() [ August 22, 2002, 13:12: Message edited by: Gothmog4230 ] |

I cant remember what its called, but theres a good +2 katana in Bodhi's maze, when you kill the mind flayer. It is good for dual-wielding with Celestial Fury (I did it with my elven assassin)

All that counts is the number of attacks.
So make it Scimitar and Shortsword and you will have 4 attacks (5 with haste and 8 with Imp. Haste). When you need to hit something that requires +3 - use Sh. Sw. of Backstabbing. When you need to kill a Clay Golem use a +2 Staff Mace (found at Adventurers' Mart) - it will save you from unequipping the offhand. |

You probably mean malakar
*spoiler*: Katana +2: Malakar This sleek katana radiates magical energy when carried. The Malakar, or 'Dueling Steel', was used by a less-than-honorable samurai during duels against other samurai. As if of its own volition it will swoop down and deflect the slashing attacks of other weapons. It is perfect for the warrior concerned about defense as well as offense. STATISTICS THAC0: +2 bonus AC: +2 bonus against slashing weapons Damage: 1D10 +2 Damage type: slashing Weight: 4 Speed Factor: 2 Proficiency Type: Katana Type: 1-handed Requires: 6 Strength Not Usable By: Druid Cleric Mage |

I'm going with *** in two weapon style and ** in longswords...I figure once I get more level-ups I can start putting more profeciencies in Katanas (just because they're cool!). Contradict me if I'm wrong (although it seems to me there are quite a few nice longswords in the game).

Excellent choice, you'll have more than enough weapons to choose from.
