I have both; got one from a sale of all D&D games at a ridiculous price so I grabbed it. No idea where or when I got the other. The wiki says the steam one came out a few years earlier than the GOG one, so my assumption is that the GOG is the better edition?

I've got something weird going on too with having games I don't remember buying, does GoG's Galaxy engine do something like pick up games you have from other sources and sometimes add them to your GoG library? Somehow I have Pathfinder:Kingmaker listed on my GoG library, but I only got it via the Epic giveaway last Christmas. A couple other games like Xcom 2 and Prison Architect are in my GoG library that I'm sure I didn't pay for but I remember picking up during an Epic or Steam giveaway.

I know one of the two; GOG or Steam; has a way to import your license for games purchased through other online vendors. In my case I know I bought both; I bought the one solo; and then when the D&D full-game pack came out with a prodigious sale i got it again along with nearly every other D&D RPG released for Windows. I'm just trying to figure out which one is better rather than installing both and only playing one.

GoG used to have "GoG Connect" that supposedly let you import a LIMITED selection of Steam titles into GoG Galaxy, but those were rare. It never let me import the X-com remake but that was the only thing I had from Steam that was available on GoG (and it was a Christmas gift of a DVD...that installed Steam to download the game rather than install from the DVD. Never figured out why it was a DVD instead of a CD or what was supposed to take up all that space on the DVD).
GoG connect has been dead since before X-com2 appeared in my GoG library, and Xcom1 is missing.

I also know I would never have purchased Prison Architect. Grab it for free from a giveaway yes, but I haven't purchased it.

Yes I have a variety of games from both GoG and Steam that were either freebies I grabbed for no real reason, or giveaways they gave everyone. I have Xcom2 + expansions; I've played through the base game maybe 3 times; but haven't finished a run with both expansions yet. They definitely throw a monkey-wrench into your tactics every time they show up - boss encounters from both expansions. Heh, we're chatting away and so far I've gotten no answer to my question about NWN. I almost feel like I'm being RickRolled like I kept doing to Sorvo. But then he'd always gotten an answer that made sense before then. ;)

Ok, that actually helped. I've been debating which to install again. Main campaign is fun and trying new builds with it is even better. Plus somebody passed me a mod that includes some extra costumes. The thing that frustrated me to no end with NWN2 was that they misunderstood what people meant when they said they liked "armor crafting" - in NWN if you have enough ranks in the right crafting skills you can customize your armor to taste. I LOVED that. Especially when you get to the part in Hordes where you are in the anti-magic room and you can re-invent everybody's armor. Instead they put in an actual crafting system that I've never touched. I don't want to craft epic magic armors that all look exactly the same so I can't recognize half my party.

There's a mod that lets you customize the appearance of armor at will. Unfortunately it's on my Win7 computer and I'm getting ready to head to bed. After the final updates Win7 started taking more than 5 minutes to boot up and be usable (including a couple minutes after logging in), which I think was deliberate sabotage by Microsoft to encourage people to downgrade to Windows 10. That computer used to only take a couple minutes to boot and it's had Win7 practically since it came out.
They did something similar with XP that slowed it down near the end (proven by uninstalling certain updates I can't recall which) to encourage people to switch to Windows 7.

I was passed a couple "sexy OC's" mods, if that's what I hope it is I'd be happy. Mostly I just want access to stuff like that erinyes armor. I'd love to recreate my bard/fighter/weapon master drow and beat my way through the first campaign.

Actually, that might have been the mod that let you do it, I honestly can't recall as it has been 3 years since I last played with NWN2.

I'll have to figure out how to install it once the game is downloaded and installed.

Alright, I had to figure out why the documents folder for the game didn't exist, decided to start up the game and pretend I was going to play, then log off and it created the docs folder so I knew where to put the two mods. Now I'll have to see how to find the costumes I'm looking for. And then finally see how enchanting works; hoping that the enchanting I saw done in home-built "worlds" is universal.

I can't help you with the Steam version, but the GoG version is the same as the DVD version. I have NWN2 and Mask of the Betrayer on DVD, and over 7 years later bought NWN Complete from GoG (on sale for the same price that I paid for MotB alone back in 2012) to get Storm of Zehir and Mysteries of Westgate.
You either copy files to the appropriate subfolders in the game directory (typically \hak, \override, or \module) or you copy the installer to the game directory and run it from there.

It didn't want to do anything in the game directory folder, but I started a mock game and then logged out. After that the documents folder existed and I just tossed the override.rar's in there and opened them. So far it seems like it's working, I just have to figure out how to access the more interesting stuff I want.

Unfortunately it looks like I never reinstalled most of the mods after I had to reinstall the game and had some difficulty a couple years back when I had to replace the video card in my Windows 7 computer.
I have several candidates for which one let you modify the appearance of clothes at will, but they are all "adult" mods. I think it was one that built upon several other mods.
I could list them, and I know they are all on the NWN Vault, but this isn't the adult section of the forums.
It doesn't mean you need to use the nudity parts, and I certainly did not with the male content, but I do recall installing a "sexy" underwear and lingerie mod a decade ago because I couldn't tell when I had accidentally forgotten to re-equip my female bard Donna Prima's (believe it or not I actually got that for a random name in NWN1 and I couldn't resist using it again for a bard in NWN2) chain shirt after doing something like enchanting it.
Am I allowed to name the "sexy" mods at least?

Although the real porny costumes might be fun, I was remembering a couple servers that had the sexy oc mod running and I enjoyed that. I'll admit that long ago I played on some adult social servers with NWN and it was fun creating kinky costumes for the girls. But not entirely needed now. I am curious though, if they had to make a motb specific version does that mean it doesn't work in the other mods?

Maybe that was why I had trouble with them? I think I tried to use GoG's installer instead of the DVD's so I could have all the expansions instead of just two.

I haven't played long enough to find out, but I was reading something on the mod page suggesting it alters npc clothes too, presumably the clothing found on stock npcs. If that's the case they'd have to pretty much either go through every npc and change their clothes; or they'd have to replace clothing set A with Mod set A and so on. But if the latter, they'd only need to do separate ones for MotB if it used quite a few costumes not used in vanilla. I've played SoZ several times but I don't remember many having unique costumes except perhaps the NPCs you can pick up. But then it's been 5-6 years and I don't pay attention to what most NPCs are wearing unless it's unusual.
