Forums Closing - Eek!
Sorry for my use of the word "until" as it has caused confusion. These forums, that you are reading now, will be able to be read at this/these URLs even after they are closed until they are archived.

After they are archived, the url/links to these threads may change (this is all done by wizards with wands and stuff that I don't understand). If we can make it so links do not change we will, but wizards are tricky and it may be beyond my control.

As for the guild forums, these will also eventually close. They will not close on Monday the 19th, but they may close without notice at any point after that. Guild forums DO NOT get archived, so copy your important information down and/or transfer it to the groups section over on Social.

Some signed NWN2 goodies on GameBanshee

To be fair, I think it's a nice little stunt that might get cRPG fans who have not tried the game to give NWN2 a second look. It's also an OEI nod to the wider cRPG community with which it is in OEI's best interest to cultivate a relationship.

It would have been very bad form if Matthew had not given us the heads up, but he did, so I don't see the problem.
This more or less sums it up - GB has been pretty supportive with coverage/interviews in the past, so I wanted to give them a bit of support in return. As I mentioned, I've done a couple of contests on here for these signed copies, but each time I've done it the winner has not sent their address. I still have the copies and intend to do more giveaways on these forums as well.

Cool, glad you figured out what the problem was!

Newbie here!
If you want a class that's pretty simple to play, I would recommend a Cleric. They can heal in the early part of the game (helpful until you find a companion that can heal), can wear heavy armor, hit pretty hard, and have a lot of nice buffing spells.

But there are plenty of possibilities. Hope you enjoy the game!

Home Premium does come with Aero, and it's turned on by default. I'm not on my home machine at the moment, so I can't tell you how to turn it off - I'm not sure if that'd be causing the problem anyway.

Exposure for your mods
If anyone would like some exposure for your mods, please send me a link and a short description and I'll try to pick one every day for our Obsidian Twitter page. If you have any videos of your mod up on Youtube, that's even better.

Feel free to send along any mod, big or small. I already posted Hellfire's video of the T-Rex that he made, and I think it'd be fun to show off some of the cool stuff you guys make with our Twitter followers.

Send an email with the link to mrorie@obsidian.net, and make sure the subject line starts with "NWN2" so that I can sort the emails easily.

Exposure for your mods
I may post some stuff on Facebook, but we have fewer followers on there than we do on Twitter. So we'll see!

Feel free to send over mods that you think are interesting that you may have completed in the past. These don't necessarily need to be something recent or cutting-edge.

Exposure for your mods
And I'm happy to talk about multiplayer stuff if people are planning events or the like.

Brian Chung, Technical Artist

Binary & ASCII models efficiency comparison
The rendering speed of TNO is all bound by your computer's CPU/GPU power, it's still a binary format in memory after all, so whether it is ASCII or binarized in the .HAK or override is irrelevant. That said, it's not surprising to hear as TNO is pretty high quality for the NWN engine. And yes, some TNO files are still in ASCII format because either it had animated meshes or we didn't have enough time to figure out what the cause was (yay deadlines).

The reason binarized models are larger in size is due to the difference in how one would store data.

An ASCII text file might write a vertex position as "0 0 0".

However, a binary format would probably pad it out to 32-bit floating point number. So instead of 6 bytes in the string (including spaces and newline), you'd have 3 numbers of 4 bytes each: 6 bytes becomes 12 bytes for the storing the same 3 numbers.

In memory, it'll stay as 12 bytes though.

Errors in the binarized model might be a result of the tool encountering an error in the original ASCII model and not being able to compensate for it, thus converting the data into junk.
