Some signed NWN2 goodies on GameBanshee

To be fair, I think it's a nice little stunt that might get cRPG fans who have not tried the game to give NWN2 a second look. It's also an OEI nod to the wider cRPG community with which it is in OEI's best interest to cultivate a relationship.

It would have been very bad form if Matthew had not given us the heads up, but he did, so I don't see the problem.
This more or less sums it up - GB has been pretty supportive with coverage/interviews in the past, so I wanted to give them a bit of support in return. As I mentioned, I've done a couple of contests on here for these signed copies, but each time I've done it the winner has not sent their address. I still have the copies and intend to do more giveaways on these forums as well.

Toolset Running Very Slow When Placing Placeables
Cool, glad you figured out what the problem was!

Newbie here!
If you want a class that's pretty simple to play, I would recommend a Cleric. They can heal in the early part of the game (helpful until you find a companion that can heal), can wear heavy armor, hit pretty hard, and have a lot of nice buffing spells.

But there are plenty of possibilities. Hope you enjoy the game!

Home Premium does come with Aero, and it's turned on by default. I'm not on my home machine at the moment, so I can't tell you how to turn it off - I'm not sure if that'd be causing the problem anyway.

Exposure for your mods
If anyone would like some exposure for your mods, please send me a link and a short description and I'll try to pick one every day for our Obsidian Twitter page. If you have any videos of your mod up on Youtube, that's even better.

Feel free to send along any mod, big or small. I already posted Hellfire's video of the T-Rex that he made, and I think it'd be fun to show off some of the cool stuff you guys make with our Twitter followers.

Send an email with the link to mrorie@obsidian.net, and make sure the subject line starts with "NWN2" so that I can sort the emails easily.

Exposure for your mods
I may post some stuff on Facebook, but we have fewer followers on there than we do on Twitter. So we'll see!

Feel free to send over mods that you think are interesting that you may have completed in the past. These don't necessarily need to be something recent or cutting-edge.

Exposure for your mods
And I'm happy to talk about multiplayer stuff if people are planning events or the like.

Brian Chung, Technical Artist

Binary & ASCII models efficiency comparison
The rendering speed of TNO is all bound by your computer's CPU/GPU power, it's still a binary format in memory after all, so whether it is ASCII or binarized in the .HAK or override is irrelevant. That said, it's not surprising to hear as TNO is pretty high quality for the NWN engine. And yes, some TNO files are still in ASCII format because either it had animated meshes or we didn't have enough time to figure out what the cause was (yay deadlines).

The reason binarized models are larger in size is due to the difference in how one would store data.

An ASCII text file might write a vertex position as "0 0 0".

However, a binary format would probably pad it out to 32-bit floating point number. So instead of 6 bytes in the string (including spaces and newline), you'd have 3 numbers of 4 bytes each: 6 bytes becomes 12 bytes for the storing the same 3 numbers.

In memory, it'll stay as 12 bytes though.

Errors in the binarized model might be a result of the tool encountering an error in the original ASCII model and not being able to compensate for it, thus converting the data into junk.

Spawning Companions
Just note that toying with the roster can cause some wonky behavior. Make a perma-save before you do it.

Interesting: Overclocking GPU+REduced Performance.
That is curious. I've never heard of stutter and bad framerates when overclocking a processor before, but then I've never done it myself. Usually I've heard the problems that arise are more along the lines of graphical corruption and/or game crashes if you're pushing it too far.

Signed SOZ copies!
According to our panel of judges (aka the random.org random number generator), the winner is _NeveRsun_! I'll get in touch with him to arrange some manner of prize transmission.

There are a couple more copies of the signed game left, though, that may wind up up for grabs somewhere soon...

Signed SOZ copies!
Hey guys,

A while back we attempted to give away a couple of copies of NWN2: Storm of Zehir, which were signed by the development team. The person I picked at random didn't respond to PM's, though, so I still have that copy.

So let's try giving it away again. This time around, I'll throw in the signed copy of Storm of Zehir, alongside a couple of official Obsidian coasters. (Maybe I can get those signed too.)

All you have to do is leave a reply to this post to enter, but please only reply once. On Friday afternoon at 3 PM PST I'll close the topic and do a random drawing to decide the winner. I might not do the drawing right away, but I'll announce the winner on Monday morning.

(I have a couple copies of these to give out, so I'll try to do this again next week. So don't fret if you miss your chance this time around!)
