In Memory of Jeff Hagerl
Posted Thursday, October 17, 2002 - 23:28 CEST by Sorcerer

I'm writing this with a heavy heart, still scarcely believing it myself. This is the main part of the e-mail I just received:

I have some sad news to report. I am Jeff Hagerl's girlfriend. I found this address in Jeff's address book. I saw this: (PinkGiraffe... Incubus) I am going through his address book informing his friends about a terrible tragedy that occured last week. Jeff was in an automobile accident. He spent a week in a coma, before passing away quietly around 4 a.m. this morning. Jeff spoke of your website often. I am sure that he enjoyed working for you.

You might have noticed Jeff posting news here on the front page a couple of times under the alias PinkGiraffe, or posting on our boards as Elementus... He got in touch with me about posting news only a little more than two weeks ago. I believe I still spoke with him on ICQ on the same day before the accident happened.

I already expressed my sincere condolences to his loved ones, and I hope you will also take a moment for a good thought or a prayer. Jeff, you will be missed.

Whoa. I only knew Elementus... Jeff... existed for about a week, and now he's... gone. I suppose it could've happened to any of us, and from what I have read about him, it may have been better if it hadn't been him. My deepest condolences go out to the Hagerls, and to Jeff's friends. He may have chosen a somewhat odd name, but he sounds like he was one of the few people remaining in this insane world of ours with a good heart.

I Salute you, Jeffery Hagerl.

I suppose I only ever spoke to Jeff while he was frequenting the chat room and occasionally when he posted on the boards. But apart from that, i knew next to nothing about him apart from that he seemed like a pretty decent guy.

I can't really say much more apart from that I offer my deepest condolances and that while he was around in body and spirit, he was a good person to be with electronically (from my experience with him) I wish his family, friends and girlfriend all the best...

Thank you all very much. I was Jeff's girlfriend. Your kind words have made this difficult time easier to bear. For those of you that knew Jeff well, I would love to hear stories about him. I told Jeff's family some things that you have said, and they appreciate it very much.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Jeff Hagerl. I never knew you, I never met you, I never even heard your name before. I still have sorrow in my heart. Any type of accident related death is always sad. I regret I never got to meet him. My prayers today are for him.

I had no idea who this tragic news was about until I saw the names PinGiraffe and Elementus.

I remember some of his posts, I talked to him on the chat once and of course I knew him as a news poster.

He will be missed around here.

I wish his loved ones courage in the hard times to come.

My deepest condolences to Jeff's family and friends.

For many of us SP has become a family -- a family of people from all different backgrounds and ways of life, coming here to share common interests. It is our world, one that offers friendship, kindness and protection for all that enter and choose to stay. Jeff was one of the newest of our family and he chose to share himself with us at least for a short time, before he was taken away to another place. Though he is no longer with us in form, his presence remains, and will always will be within the halls of SP.

Rest well, Jeff.

[The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away]

It's always tough when someone I know, however vaguely, is taken.

My deepest condolences.

Well, my first reaction was to be shocked...you don't normally hear stuff like this. This is "It happened to a friend of a friend of an acquaintance of a friend" stuff. So I was struck speechless...IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.

I knew Jeff very little, but I did know that he was my news posting replacement after I went MIA...not everyday someone has the guts to tackle a job like that.

As a friend said, "Millions of people die every day". That's harsh, but that's true; however, this was "one that had a face"; I knew PinkGiraffe, or Jeff only vaguely, but the fact that he's gone is startling and frightening. He was a good person. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences. Death takes everyone, with no pity. It is only the saddest that it happened to him when he could still live his life to the fullest.

For me, his name cracked me up. I couldn't help smiling every time I saw a post of his.

Again, my deepest condolences for his death. The world is not a nice place.

I can't say I remember him much if at all but I'm sure I have read his posts while he was still with us.

My deepest condolences to his family and all who knew him.

I hardly knew Jeff, in fact I didn't even know his name was Jeff. I knew him for a grand total of a week under the name 'PinkGiraffe.'

Coincidentally, it was the name that made him stand out. It isn't everyday you see someone with such a lively sense of humour. From what little of him I could see, this was a good trait of his, and one of many, I'm sure.

He didn't post much, he wasn't in chat that often, he didn't say much, but still he stood out from the crowd because of who he was.

Regardless of how much time he spent here, if he had of stayed a while longer I would ahve gladly bestowed the title of 'Regular' upon him. He will be missed, my condolences go out to his close friends and family.
