Kindle Review March 20, 2010 Linda (Salinas,CA) I received my Kindle in 2/10 and mostly just love it. The wireless connection is really great and the download speeds are as advertised. I chose a Kindle over the Nook based on other people's reviews I had read. I would enjoy, however, being able to loan books to my friends after I have finished with them. Also, I would like it to have a chip to archive my books rather than having to download them again after I have archived them. I had one problem losing internet connection, but the technical support people were wonderfully helpful when I called and walked me though re-establishing wireless connection.
Very Satisfied March 20, 2010 C. Allaman I am completely satisfied with my Kindle. I am active duty US Navy, and there has never been a great way to take a lot of books with me when I get underway, until now. I can download books straight to my Kindle wirelessly, either directly from my Kindle or from Amazon.com, and it takes less than a minute to get the book. I love being able to have multiple books in such a tiny space. Excellent for travel (or in my case, getting deployed).
I love the speed of the 3G Whispernet access. Even more, I love that it's free, and Global.
If you love to read, and if you travel a lot, the Kindle is a MUST HAVE.
A Total Lifesaver!! March 20, 2010 D. Haas (Houston, TX) I must have been living in a cave because I had never heard of a Kindle before about a month ago... I recently moved to Belgium for a period and was dismayed to find there were very few books/magazines in English. A friend mentioned the Amazon Kindle to me and I went and watched the videos and read people's reviews. Be aware, there is NO backlight for the reading screen on this item. And it's a good thing because your battery life would be maybe an hour or two. Now I can read for hours and days before needing to charge it. One thing... you WILL want some sort of cover. I didn't purchase one at the time I purchased my Kindle and ended up having to order from Amazon.uk to avoid huge international shipping charges. I also purchased a reading light - something I've never used before but am now totally addicted to! This item is the BEST purchase I have made in the last five years - hands down. Thousands of books are right at my fingertips and minutes away... it's a booklover's nirvana! As it happens, it looks like I'll be traveling quite a bit in the coming year and I'm soooo thankful I'll have my Kindle with me... Never have to worry about the lack of reading material again!
I love it March 20, 2010 rudy williams (CARY, NC, US) I have had my Kindle a month and think it is the best purchase I have ever made. The battery is long-lasting--my second charge lasted 17 days because I turn the wireless on only to download a book. I am a 69 year old non-techie, but was using my Kindle within minutes of taking it out of the box. It is incredibly easy to use. I bought it for travel because I am retired and travel a lot. However, I find I have become impatient with traditional books because the Kindle is easier to hold and handle--this from someone who was a university professor of literature for 30 years and who loves the feel and smell of books. Materials I have bought for my Kindle are free or very reasonable. I tend to read classics and older works as opposed to new best sellers. So far there is not a single thing I dislike about the Kindle.
Kindle International March 20, 2010 SusieQu (Australia) The Kindle initially worked well.
It will only charge from the laptop however and isn't shipped with a power adaptor. No local USB charger will work which can be very annoying!!
You need to be careful and check that the battery symbol shows the Kindle charging and not go by the yellow/green light. I was using this and the battery depleted, it took a lot of time charging for it to start again!
Overall I am happy but when I am in the US next I will try and get a separate wall charger.
