    Yeah, whatever that means....

In any case, a good party has about 3 frontliners (or two frontliners and a backup fighter), 2 mages (a mage and a backup mage), at least one cleric (preferably two), and a thief.

I'm amazed about my current party:

    -Main char: Cavalier (melee man)
    -Archer (ranged weapon expert)
-mage-thief (general support char & primary spellcaster)
-Mazzy (swing-role fighter ;) - excells in ranged fight and melee)

and a few Guest Stars ;)

Extremely flexible, compact and fast leveling up :)

I don't agree with you Tiamat, a party with four fighters, a sorcerer and a cleric/thief covers all grounds... You don't have to worry about the cleric/thf and the sorc to be vulnerable, just keep one fighter close to them to intercept monsters attacking your spellcasters... Your Sorc can cast spells fast enough (especially due to contingency spells and the like) and your fighters can protect them...

Especially in situations where your surrounded by badasses, a party with many fighters come in handy, since they can intercept the badasses headed for your casters... Situations like the final battle with Irenicus, or think of Firk, If you can surround him with say 4 fighters and a couple of minions, he'll never attack your spellcasters, since he'll always have a target closer to him...

then again, party preferences are a completely personal thing :)

A party i played and with wich i found the game a little too easy was with a human berserker dual wielding longswords and/or flail of ages. Korgan who is a very tough fighter. Keldorn with his true sight and dispel is a worthy addition to every part. Keldorn can be replaced with Mazzy for range supremacy and decent meleé. Viconia one good cleric with her 18 wis her only lack is her evil alignmet that makes the undead join you instead of exploding.
Edwin with the amulat of mucho cheese makes him a topoftheline mage and he has a cool attitude.
And to top it off Jan Janssen a decent support mage and an excellent thief if you can forego backstab and traplaying.
It was a real funny party to play with all the interactions between the npc´s but a wee bit overpowered in some situations. My berserker was imported from BG1 and his stats was quite high.

First finished the game with Juan the conjurer, Korgan (replaced by Sarevok in TOB), Valygar, Haer'Dalis, Vicky and Imoen. Los of offensive power and an abundance of magical high-jinks. Marvellous.

Going for less magical clout this time around with a more balanced party; Gerald the berserker, Mazzy, Jaheira, Anomen, Nalia and Imoen. Lots of fighters and healing. Again, marvellous.

I've no one favourite party; one of the best things about Baldur's Gate II is the way you get a different game every time by careful tailoring of party anf RP outlook. :D
