I have a few questions on henchmen in HOTU -

Who are the most effective (I am using sorceror imported from NWN)?

How many do you advise taking and how do they effect XP (I seem to be gettin tiny amounts of XP for killing drider or drow)?

I have recently reached the underdark and lost Daelen - am I right to assume he or the original henchmen wont be returning any time soon being as the equipment I gave them have been left in the well?

As far as I remember you get new henchmen in the underdark and the ones from before wouldn't return at again, at least i never got the option. but I could be wrong since I never used any henchmen.

    ***********Spoiler, sort of***********

If you had Deekin, he goes with you to chapter 2. He is the only one of the chapter 1 henchmen who can go with you.

In chapter 2 you have the choice of 2 new henchmen...Nathyria (remember her) and Valen Shadowbreath...but if you're killing driders you should have run into them already.

That's it for chapter 2...your best bet would be Valen for your wizard. Of course you can take two.

Don't know why your experience is scant...what is your character level? If you started with your NWN character, it may be too high a level and therefore affecting the XP you get.

If you are using a wizard/sorcerer/palemaster you can add a custom made to your own specifications golem as your third henchman as well.

    And yes, it rocks.

How much XP do you mean by "tiny"? I seem to think I got a lot more XP when I exported my character from SOU (level 13 at the time) into the game than I did when I started with a new character (at level 15). You'd get minimal XP if you imported a character from NWN, especially if you hit level 20 there.

My character was Lvl 20 when imported (yes I know! but I got rather attached to him and wanted to see a natural progression from NWN) - I had been playing the game without henchmen apart from a short spell with Daelen in chap 1.
I tried both Valen and Nathyria in the winged elves section - and after checking out some of the experience awards (maybe something like 22 or 32XP for killing a drow). I dropped Valen - this has made little or no difference to the XP awarded. I am thinking of going it alone again but if the XP awards remain as low as they are now I may restart with a new character.
I assume the XP is based upon your character lvl vs the lvl of the enemy.

That is correct. XP is awarded based on the relative power between you and the enemy, henchmen are not considered. Since you started out 5 levels higher than the game was balanced for, you will continue to get paltry sums for your XP awards.

If you like your sorceror, try taking away 5-6 levels before you start the game. It'll make it more of a challenge.
