Is there a way to get the scripter to work with Vista?

    Hi there,

    Now you'll have to forgive me as i'm new to this site( hello everyone :) ), and I may be asking a stupid question here (as I can't really find anything about it anywhere else)...

    I've just started playing BG again after a few years, having completed it a few times before. I've always played it by writing and using my own scripts (i'm a control freak!) and that's a part i've really enjoyed a lot. But, playing it now on a Vista (!) lappy, I cannot get the script compiler to run. I get the old:

    Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library

    Debug Assertion Failed!

    Program: C:bad:...........\AICompile.exe
    File: filecore.cpp
    Line: 236

    Now i'm fairly sure I got this error (or one similar) each time i've started using it again in the past (having written scripts twice over in the last 11yrs on different machines) but I somehow found a way around it... Don't know what that might have been now though lol. I've tried changing the compatibility mode, and yes its the final version of the compiler.

    Is it just something that's simply too old to work on a new OS? Or does anyone know how I can get round it? It's spoiling the fun not being able to write my own scripts, and my party are frankly driving me up the wall with needing to be told what to do all the time! ;)

    Cheers!

    (I'm not sure Vista is definately the problem - I think it ran ok on XP but i can't remember for sure - if anyone knows if it should or not that would be helpful too :) )

    I don't really know if it should work with Vista or not (mostly everything does though...), but you could use Virtual PC to create an XP environment in Vista.
