TREE OF LIFE

Queen's Palace

The party steps through the gate. I then click on the tree a number of times until I get several magic acorns. Some of them are used as sort of mini-healing potions. The others are quest items that will soon be needed to make progress.

I then go west through the narrow hallway. I use the Stone Harp and the Stone Horn on each of the statues west of the fountain. The way is now open to the Tree of Life.

Tree Parasites

Now I make the rounds, searching for the Tree Parasites. The Tree of Life Nuts will open the way if I run into a gap. Each time I attack a Parasite the first time, it will summon a pair of Elementals to attack. All I have to do is kill the Elementals and then I can kill the Parasite itself. This is the way to eliminate all three Parasites.

Battle against Irenicus

Everybody is sent to the middle of the Tree after killing the last parasite. Ellesime is free of her cage, and a dialogue between her and Irenicus ensues. Once it is over, battle begins.

In vanilla BG2 it was a simple matter of letting Irenicus expend all his offensive spells on whoever wore the Cloak of Mirroring and then finishing him off after he ran out. His repertoire is more versatile in SCS.

There's still a definite strategy though. Avastrian and Keldorn remain close to Irenicus. Everybody else retreats along the branches that protrude outwards. I then summon a few creatures to help keep him distracted, a Skeleton Warrior from Anomen, and a Planetar from Imoen. Jaheira aims an Insect Plague at one of his illusions, and it spreads to Irenicus himself. Keep in mind that Irenicus may go around in search of other party members due to his SCS AI, thus making another retreat necessary. Nonetheless it's a matter of letting Avastrian and Keldorn stay near him, and letting summoned creatures occupy him and go to work on him. The Planetar eventually manages to land the killing blow.

Unfortunately, the souls of all the party members end up getting dragged to Hell.
