ACT 4: FIND THE PLACE WHERE ANNAH FOUND YOUR BODY – OVERVIEW

Act 4 begins when you deliver the Bronze Sphere to Pharod and he tells you what he knows about you. As it happens, he doesn't know a whole lot. But at least he can tell you who found your body – his adopted daughter Annah. She is the tiefling you noticed hanging out south of the Mortuary back in the Hive.

Pharod asks Annah to lead you to the place where she found your body, and though not happy with this task, Annah joins your party. Having Annah in your party makes the Tattoo of Annah available in Fell's Tattoo Parlor.

While speaking to Pharod you should ask him what he took from your body before selling it to the Dustmen. Threaten him with telling the Dustmen where he finds his bodies, and he will go off to fetch the things for you:

When the conversation ends you have the option to go directly to the place you have to enter, or to finish off any business you may have in the Buried Village. If you pick the first option, you are taken directly to the Door to the Tenement of Thugs in the Southeastern Hive Section. This is the Painted Door at 9 on the map of that area. You will realize that the "painted" door is in fact a real door. You must enter here to proceed with Act 4, but before you proceed you may want to handle any unfinished business in the Hive.

If you have followed my advice from Act 3, you will have kept the Punch Daggers of Moorin for Annah. Make sure she is equipped with these instead of her own punch daggers – this will ensure that Annah has enchanted weapons like (presumably, at this time) the rest of the party.

Dustup in the Hive

To find the place where Annah found your body, you will need to go through the Tenement of Thugs to the Alley of Lingering Sighs. But before entering the Tenement, you may want to clear up a few loose ends in the Hive.

Joining the Dustmen

If you have accepted Emoric's quest to find Soego, you should seek him out at the Gathering Dust Bar in the Northeastern Hive Section. Tell him where you found Soego, and what has happened to him. You will be allowed to join the Dustmen and can now buy items from Emoric and rest at the Gathering Dust Bar. Please also see the Gathering Dust Bar (Act 2).

Your Arm, Fell, Dak'kon and Xachariah

Before you proceed with Act 4, you should take the arm you found in the Dismembered Crypt to Fell's Tattoo Parlor and have Fell tell you about the tattoos on the arm.

When you enter Fell's Parlor, Annah will be very nervous and warn you that being here can draw the Lady's eye. She interrupts when you speak to Fell and you will have to calm her down before you can speak with him.

Even though you'll probably be able to understand Dabus speech at this point, you'll still want to ask Dak'kon to translate for you. Then ask Fell about the tattoos on the dismembered arm you found. Dak'kon will give you a very incomplete translation, leaving out the fact that one of the tattoos speaks of a time when your path was shared by four others. The four were bound by the symbol of Torment and were drawn to you as all tormented souls are. Ask Dak'kon – politely! – for a more complete translation. He will not want to elaborate while Fell is present.

The tattoos on the arm will now also be available from Fell:

While you are here, you might as well buy new tattoos for yourself or for Dak'kon and Annah.

Once outside, ask Dak'kon about the four on the tattoo. He will tell you that the four were:

  • A woman who loved a man who didn't love her (Deionarra, whose ghost you met in the Mortuary).
  • A blind man who saw things no mortal man could see.
  • A familiar, a mage's pet, bound by loyalty (Morte).
  • A slave (Dak'kon himself).

Grill Dak'kon a bit more on the blind man to gain a memory (and 3,000 XP). The man was an archer called Xachariah and in his blindness he had gained a "second sight".

Now go to the Mortuary and ask the guards to let you in (tell them you are here to pay your respect to Deionarra. Or if you are a Dustman, tell them so). On the First Floor of the Mortuary, seek out the Zombie Worker in the northeastern corner (the one marked by 8 on the map). Speak to him to learn that he is Xachariah. He can tell you a bit about your previous life when he followed you – apparently you could be pretty ruthless. He will also tell you that Dhall has saved you from cremation many times, and that one of the zombies on the Second Floor is not a zombie but a spy (you should already have learned this in Act 1 – the false zombie is the Anarchist spy Vaxis).

Make sure to ask about your previous life to learn that you hid something inside him. Use your scalpel or rip him open to gain two objects: Xachariah's liver (which is worthless) and Xachariah's Heart (which is NOT worthless).

When you try to end the conversation, Xachariah asks you to kill him in order to end his life as a zombie. It's entirely up to you if you do or don't.

Sharegrave

If you promised Sharegrave in Ragpicker's Square to find out where Pharod finds his bodies, don't forget to go back and tell him.

Office of Vermin and Disease Control

Take the rat tails you have collected to the Office of Vermin and Disease Control in the Southwestern Hive Sector. Sell at least ten of them to Phineas Lort, then speak to him again to learn of the giant rat that is hiding in his cellar (it is a Wererat). Promise him to get rid of it for him. Phineas will give you the key to the cellar. Enter the cellar, kill the Wererat, return and speak to Phineas again for 1,000 XP and 200 copper pieces. While you're in the cellar, don't forget to loot the box in the middle for:

Rest and Equip

Finally, don't forget to rest and equip yourself to prepare for the troubles ahead. There are some hard fights so you'll want to be prepared.

After the Hive

Once you are done in the Hive, it is time to find the place where Annah found your body. The rest of this act is rather linear: You have to enter the Tenement of Thugs, fight or sneak your way through it to the Alley of Lingering Sighs, and pass through that alley to the place where Annah found you. Once you find this place, you will have to carry out two small quests to proceed to Act 5.
