ACT 8: THE OUTLANDS AND THE HELLS – OVERVIEW

This act begins when you arrive in the Outlands after leaving Curst Prison and ends when you return to Sigil. It is almost completely linear. It is also the most action-packed part of the game.

What Happens in Act 8?

Your first job is to find the fiend Trias told you about. You will find him easily enough in his hideout in the Outlands. Fhjull Forked-Tongue knows that your mortality is in a place called the "Fortress of Regrets", but he doesn't know what it is or how to get there. He suggests that you speak to the Pillar of Skulls in Avernus, the first level of Baator. As it happens, there is a portal to Baator just outside his home.

Go through the portal to find yourself in Baator and fight your way across the land to the Pillar of Skulls. Ask the Pillar where to find your mortality. You will learn (at a price!) that your mortality is in the Fortress of Regrets, but that the Pillar doesn't know how to get there; only "Trias the Betrayer" does.

"Trias the Betrayer"? Seems like a second conversation with said "Betrayer" is more than a little overdue! Find your way back to the Outlands and talk to Fhjull Forked-Tongue again! He will tell you of a portal back to Curst where you can find the treacherous Trias.

When you return to Curst you find – almost nothing! The town is almost completely gone; only the gate to Carceri remains. (Well, and one creature. Please see the Curst Gone page for details!) After you released Trias he caused so much chaos and evil that the town of Curst slid into Carceri, and it is to Carceri that you must go to find the town and the treacherous Deva. So take a deep breath and step through the portal.

You enter Carceri to find Curst about to be overrun by monsters. You must help the citizens bring order to the town before you confront Trias and demand some answers. He won't give you any answers unless you beat them out of him, so here follows the game's second Boss fight. When he is almost defeated, Trias submits and tells you how to get to the Fortress of Regrets where your mortality can be found. A portal opens for you to go back to Sigil and Act 9.

Creatures

You will meet Gronks and Grelligs in the Outlands. Gronks are easy enough to kill but Grelligs can be a pain, as they can only be harmed by blunt weapons.

Nupperibos and Lemures are some of the creatures you may meet in Baator. They come in groups but are quite easy to kill. Be aware that you need magical weapons to harm them.

In Baator you will also run into hordes of Black, Green and Red Abishai. They are a lot tougher than Nupperibos and Lemures and also come in groups of up to six at a time, and they can only be harmed by magical weapons.

You may also meet a few Cornugons in Baator. Like the other creatures here, they can only be harmed by magical weapons and they deal out a lot of damage. Fortunately they are always alone.

Carceri will introduce you to a lot of Gehreleths. Like the other demons they can only be harmed by magical weapons.
