Mage Tower Basement

Mage Tower Basement

  1. Here is the stairs back up to the Apprentice's Quarters.

  2. Here is a door where Lily speaks a password and you use some magical power to open it up.

  3. Here is a door that leads to the Phylactery Chamber. However, it has Templar wards that prevent the casting of any magic, so your Rod of Fire is useless here. Lily then insists trying the other door to the east.

  4. SentinalsThis door you can open. Also attacking you will be a pair of Sentinels. From this point onwards, attacks by Sentinels will be quite frequent. Occasionally they will be accompanied by a Robed Sentinel that can cast spells. Take the Robed Sentinel out first whenever you can.

  5. A chest in here holds a random item.

  6. Another chest with a random item.

  7. A chest in this room has a random item in it.

  8. In this room you'll get attacked by a few Deep Stalkers and a Deep Stalker Leader. The Leader actually isn't that dangerous, so work on the regulars first to lessen the number of attacks against you.

  9. A cabinet in here holds a Frost Rock, an Elf Root, 2 Deep Mushrooms, and a random item.

  10. This room, besides being guarded by Sentinels, has a couple of crates in it. One holds an Apprentice's Amulet and a random item. The other has an Ephemeralist's Belt and a random item.

  11. More Sentinels and a Robed Sentinel in this room. A chest and crate in here will have random items.

  12. A chest here holds a Blackened Heartwood Staff.

  13. Here is a statue that apprently serves as a magical punishment for somebody who predicted doom against her lord long ago. Whatever she has to say to you will, as you can guess, be vague and cryptic.

  14. Jowan's PhylacteryHere is a wolf statue. At Jowan's urging, you'll end up using it to amplify the Rod of Fire so as to blow away the door to the east.

  15. Here you'll get confronted by more Sentinels, led by a Sentinel Guardian. Take them out one at a time. A nearby chest will have a random item or two.

  16. Here is the Phylactery Chamber. Click on it, and Jowan will break it. Now it is time to make your way back to the Apprentice's Quarters.

Blood MagicOnce you get there, you are confronted by both Knight-Commander Greagoir, First Enchanter Irving, and several Templars. If you helped Jowan without consulting Irving, Irving seems quite disappointed. If you fell in with Irving's request however, he will stand up for you against Greagoir. Greagoir however is determined to make an example out of you, Jowan, and Lily alike. At some point, Jowan is going to cut his hand and use Blood Magic to make a violent escape. He expresses regret to Lily, who feels shocked and betrayed, before leaving.

Duncan recruitsGreagoir, whatever the circumstances, is inclined to blame you for what happened. But then Duncan intervenes, and exercises his Right of Conscription to recruit you into the Grey Wardens. In the meanwhile, Irving may get suspicious about whether you took anything from the basement (the staff in particular), but a successful Persuasion check can put this to rest. Duncan's recruitment means that you are on your way to Ostagar.
