Dust Town

Dust Town

  1. Here is your initial entry point and access to the Dust Town.

  2. Here you'll get attacked by a few Dwarven Thugs.

  3. Here you'll find Rogek and a few of his thugs. He has a business proposition for you. He'll give you Smuggled Lyrium with the idea of selling it to a mage named Godwin in the Circle Tower. He initially demands 50 gold as an initial purchase of the Lyrium, although you can use Persuasion to cut it down to 40 gold. He'll promise to recoup your investment with interest after the deal comes off. Note that if you speak to him without enough gold to make the initial purchase, he'll blow you off and this quest will become unavailable thereafter.

It is best to take on this quest after finishing the Circle Tower quest, and if you sided with the Circle of Magi instead of the Templars in its aftermath. Gwidon is in fact that mage who was hiding in a closet when the Circle Tower was overrun by Demons and Abominations, at #5 in the Senior Mage Quarters. If you speak to him, his initial inclination is to give you the regular purchase price of 50 gold. You can use Persuasion or Intimidation to raise your price to 65gp and a Crow Dagger (Dragonbone). You can also use either Persuasion or Intimidation to find out what Gwidon has going, a smuggling operation whereby he profits off of the Templars' addiction to Lyrium. Alistair will express outrage at this, but you won't lose approval with him whatever you do.

Note that if you want to turn him in to Knight-Commander Greagoir, you must collect your purchase price without hinting in any way that you're going to turn him in. Otherwise, the dialogue option will not show when you speak to Greagoir. Also, if you choose any dialogue option that sends Gwiddon back into hiding in his closet BEFORE you've completed the purchase, the quest will hit a dead end, and you won't be able to come back with any good news for Rogek.

If you do complete the purchase, come back and speak to Rogek. You can now use either Intimidation or Persuasion to up your finder's fee to as much as 25 gold.

On the other hand, if you sided with the Templars after completing the Circle Tower quest, Godwin will be dead along with the rest of the Mages. You can inform Rogek of this, and he'll attack you. You can loot about 20+ gold off his body. This, along with selling the Smuggled Lyrium anywhere else will mean you'll come close to recouping whatever you initially paid him.

  4. Here you'll find Alimar's Emporium, who sells a few odds and ends. His inventory includes recipes for Freezing Coating, Adder's Kiss, Sleeping Gas, Choking Powder, Freeze Trap, Freeze Bomb, Crow Poison, Mild Sleeping Gas Trao, and Mild Choking Powder. His more notable wares include:

    Imperial Reinforced Gloves (Rough)
    Effort's Boots (Silverite)
    Senior Enchanter Robes
    Kaddis of the Trickster
    Remarkable Amethyst
    Manual: Bards

Also, if you've been given a quest to hunt down a criminal carta led by Jarvia, Alimar is one of the individuals who has information to offer. He'll want 30 silvers, but you can intimidate him into lowering it to 20. He reveals that Jarvia's thugs use a secret door to enter their base in Dust Town. If you intimidated him into lowering his fee, he'll try to press for the full fee again after he's said what he knows. If you blow him off, he'll close his shop off to you.

Incidentally, near the door to the Emporium, you'll find an Assembly Directive that contains a Codex Entry that is relevant to the "Key to the City".

  5. Leliana's Pet NugHere is an idle dwarf. If you speak to Leliana while in Orzammar, she'll let on that she finds the local rodents adorable. This makes possible a dialogue option with the idle dwarf whereby he'll agree to catch a nug for you at a price. Now leave Dust Town temporarily. Even one of the houses in Dust Town will suffice. When you speak to the Idle Dwarf, pay up and the Cute Nug will appear in your inventory. Gift it to Leliana and you'll make her day.

  6. Here is a suspicious door. This is actually the way to the Carta Hideout, but you'll need the Fingerbone Token to get in first.

  7. Here is a beggar named Nadezda. How generous or callous you are with regards to her request is up to you. However, if you have a quest to hunt down a criminal carta led by Jarvia, Nadezda is one of the individuals who has information. You can offer monetary alms in exchange for what she knows. She reveals that Jarvia's followers use a finger bone token with a distinctive marking to enter the base. Whether or not you honor the offer is, again, up to you.

  8. Here is Zelinda. The root of her problems is that she had a child with a Casteless dwarf. If the child was female, she would have inherited the Miner's Castle. But instead, the child was born male, becoming castleless like the father. Now she has been disowned by her father unless and until she abandons the child to death, which she doesn't want to do. There's a number of ways to resolve this:

    1. Speak to her father, Ordel, who will be in Tapster's Tavern. You will need a pretty high Coercion ability to either Persuade or Intimidate him into taking Zerlinda and her child into his household. This will earn a significant xp reward for you once you bring back the good news to Zerlinda, and also approval from Wynne.
    2. If you helped Brother Burkel establish a chantry to the Maker in Orzammar, you can persuade the Brother to take in Zerlinda and her child.
    3. Persuade Zerlinda to try her luck with going to the surface.
    4. Persuade Zerlinda to abandon her child to the Deep Roads.

  9. Here is a Slums Household. Inside you can find a couple of chests with random items in them.

Also, if you spoke to both Aalimar and Nadezda about Jarvia's carta, some of her thugs will be waiting in here for you. They will immediately come at you from all sides, so ideally you should come prepared with abilities like Captivating Song, Waking Nightmare, Blood Wound, etc. Once they're defeated, the Thug Leader is willing to divulge where her base is. Whether you let him live or kill him is up to you. Either way, you'll get the Fingerbone Token to enter the base.

  10. Shady CorbittIf you have a quest to recover a tome for Shaper Assistant Milldrate from the Shaperate, here you will find Shady Corbitt. Confront him, and he will attack you. He will leave behind the Proving Receipt.
