THE SHADOW THEATER

An Ally at the Veil

My next order of business is to speak again with Sheva Whitefeather. This is an important first step before I can speak to Magda in the Veiled Theater. It is also an opportunity to get an early influence gain with Okku. I also get a 4,000xp bonus which puts Gann to his 19th level.

Gann's 19th Level

Here Gann advances to his 19th level of experience, although there is nothing in particular that stands out as a highlight. I do, however, add two more points to Use Magic Device for Gann. The video concludes with the party making its way to the door to the Veil Theater.

Magda

I enter the theater, and speak at length with the Dwarven woman named Magda. She also gives me Lienna's Key, which I'll use very soon.

Magda also has some items for sale, a lot of it headgear. Some of the Headgear, like Finch's Finest Hat and the Tragedian, are quite interesting but I have no use for them since I can't add any enchantments to them. The only one that I buy is the Thayvian Circlet (+2 Intelligence, +1 saving throws, +2 Concentration), which Valeria will wear in the interim. *Note* I don't show it in the video, but this is also my opportunity to sell off the extra loot I've been lugging around.

The video concludes with me making my way towards the Shadow Portal.

The Golem's Heart

I step through the Portal, and then use Lienna's Key to open the door to the left.

At #3 will be two chests and two bookcases. The bookcases will have a few spell scrolls that can be inscribed. One chest holds Remembrance (Quarterstaff +3, +2 deflection bonus to armor class, 10 spell resistance). The other holds another Grey Robe of the Archmagi (+5 armor class, 10 spell resistance, Spell Penetration, +1 saving throws, Neutral Sorcerers or Wizards only).

There is a Golem named the Keeper of Doors at #2. It is not capable of doing very much. If Safiya were in the party, I could have gotten +6 influence with her by asking for her insight and then getting a rough explanation of what needs to be done with the Golem.

As for reviving the Golem itself, I don't choose the option of putting my own spiritual energy into the Golem. It will be a one time boost for the Golem, and a waste on your part.

The first step to a permanent solution is to reach inside of the Golem and extract its Spirit Core. This action will result in the main character getting the Mold Spirit power, which is the ability that is needed to use Spirit Essences in item crafting. As it turns out, I do have a Brilliant Spirit Essence from my battle with Okku. The next step is to put both the Spirit Core and the Brilliant Spirit Essence into the Enchanter's Satchel, and then use the Mold Spirit power on the Satchel. This action results in the Shining Spirit Core. The last action is to place the Shining Spirit Core back inside of the Golem so that it becomes permanently reanimated.

First Door: Couriers

Here I command the Keeper of Doors to open the First Door. Three Gargoyles named Keth, Seneb, and Uabi appear at #4. I get 2,500xp for fully exploring a conversation with them. I could let them go, but I prefer to get them to attack me. They're quite easy to kill, and leave behind some Power and Earth Essences after dying, as well as two Rubies, a Periapt of Wisdom +4, and a Ring of Protection +4.

Second Door: Containment

I command the Keeper of Doors to open the Second Door, which releases a Defective Imaskari Golem. It is pretty easy to overwhelm it in physical combat, whereupon it leaves behind some Earth and Power Essences, as well as the Shocking Golem Arms (+3 enhancement bonus, +3d6 electrical damage). I keep the arms, because they can be used to assemble a Golem for a competition later on in the game. These particular arms are one of the best Golem parts available so to speak.

Third Door: Disposal

I haven't resisted since when I last fought Okku, and I'll definitely need to replenish myself before the next fight. So I leave the Shadow Theater through the Portal, rest for 8 hours, and come back.

I begin with some buffing up. Valeria can now use a Persisted Haste and a Persisted Blade Weave on herself. She can also use the 9th level spell Shades on herself, which will cast all at once Premonition, Shield, and Protection from Spells on her. The Persisted Haste will benefit party members too. She also casts a Bear's Endurance on herself in order to maximize her hit points for the coming battle.

Now I command the Keeper of Doors to open the Third Door, which releases a Lesser Primal Fire Elemental. This Elemental can be quite a dangerous foe during the early stages of the expansion. It has a very high armor class, which can make it hard to hit unless you're edging towards 30th level and / or having weapons nearing a +8 enhancement bonus. It can also use fire-based spells like Fire Storm, as well as the epic spell called Hellball.

I begin by having both Valeria and Kaelyn each weaken it with a couple of instances of Energy Drain, which will reduce its ability to land physical attacks (very helpful) and its spell resistance and its saving throws.

The Elemental unleashes the aforementioned Hellball, which Valeria just barely survived. Kaelyn undoes the damage for everyone with a Mass Heal spell.

Next, Valeria hits it with an Empowered Chain Lightning while Gann and Kaelyn each tag it with Harms spell. It is at 'badly wounded', not quite at 'near death' but getting there. So I let Okku chip away at it a little more.

Once it is 'near death', Valeria uses her Devour Spirit ability on it, thereby gaining not just the usual 10 points of spirit energy but also whatever hit points the Elemental had left as bonus spirit energy.

Incidentally, Okku levelled up autmoatically.

Now I want to explore more fully the first level of the Death God's Vault.
