BRIDGE DISTRICT MURDERS

My first two choices of optional quests in Chapter 6 had to do with getting strongholds for Avastrian, and getting some items I wanted. Now I want to take the quickest route to a reputation of 20 that I can, and score other useful items along the way. The Bridge District is my next choice.

Dermin's First Visit

As soon as I step out of the Planar Sphere, Jaheira has a romance dialogue about an 'ill wind.' Her former mentor, Dermin Courtierdale, shows up and demands that she either kill Avastrian or face Harper justice. She renounces the Harpers for Avastrian's sake.

Investigating the Murders

There's four people that I need to talk to in order to make progress with the murder quest. One of them is Rampah, who will give me a tanned leather hide, and more easily at that if I give him a bit of gold.

There's a merchant in the middle of the district named Bel. If I show him the hide he'll indicate that it's been treated with tannin by a tanner.

Next to the merchant is a prostitute named Rose Bouquet. She indicates that she smelled something particular at one of the crime scenes. She'll want me to bring back Oak Bark, Solik Berries, and Goril Berries to her so that she can pinpoint the smell. The items can be obtained for free from Bel. Once I bring them back to her she drops a hint that the smell may be tied to leather.

Next is a little boy named Faraji, who's just east of the Temple of the Helm. He doesn't offer anything helpful, believing the murders to be the work of a Witch named Cragsmoon. But I still need to talk to him to be thorough in order to make progress with the quest.

Now I head for the Tanner's House, which is along the quay of the bridge.

Rejiek the Hidesman

Now I enter the Tanner's House. Rejiek the Hidesman knows the jig is up and flees downstairs.

I follow him down, and he continues to make his way down the next set of stairs. There's a lot of traps down here, so Imoen takes her time. There's some loot down here, including a Scroll of Protection from Electricity. Underneath one of the beds is Human Flesh, which is an ingredient for an armor made from human skin. It's not an especially powerful armor though, so neither the good or evil parties are interested.

I continue downwards again. A Mage named Vellin Dahn warns me to stay away. I am soon attacked by Rogues, Ghouls, and a Bone Golem. This fight isn't much trouble, as Keldorn keeps the Rogues honest with True Seeing.

Imoen disarms traps in two of the crates. She finds a few spell scrolls, as well as the shaft for the Gesen Bow.

Gesen Bow

Now I travel towards the Docks District, only to get ambushed by a much larger force of Githyanki. This fight can be pretty tough. Here, I have to pull out every stop that I can, Chaos, Slow, Insect Plague, Chain Lightning, Skull Trap, etc. Once I've got things in place, and I've weakened them enough, I start hacking them down one by one, or attacking the ones closest to Imoen if need be. I admit that I did have a stroke of luck when the Githyanki brought Minsc to near death, only to Maze him for the rest of the fight.

I move on and then have Cromwell assemble the Gesen Bow (+4, shoots its own ammunition that scores 2-8 piercing damage and 1-2 electrical damage, +20% electrical resistance). This will be Imoen's missile weapon for the rest of the game.

A drawback with the bow is that its arrows take a while to reach their target in comparison to other bows. Some may consider this cheese, but often I like to have Imoen equip arrows with the bow as well. This way the arrows reach their target faster, and they add a little extra electrical damage on top of the arrows themselves.

Now I do a couple of quests for the Temple of Helm in Athkatla.
