ANOMEN IS CALLED HOME

Since this is Anomen's NPC quest, you must have Anomen in your party in order to get it.

The quest ties in with the Anomen romance so some parts of the quest will play out a bit differently if you are romancing Anomen (only possible for female Humans, Elves, and Half-Elves), and some won't happen if you are not romancing him.

Part 1: Anomen is Summoned Home

This part of the quest happens after Anomen has been in your party for five days. If you are romancing Anomen, you must wait until after the lovetalk that begins with Anomen saying, "My lady...I feel most terrible about my burst of temper the previous day." After this, go to any outside area.

  1. A man named Terl approaches the party and addresses Anomen, telling him that his sister Moira has been murdered. Anomen is summoned to his father's home in the Government District.

  2. So, go to the Government District and enter the Delryn Estate at 14. Speak to Anomen's father, Cor Delryn, who turns out to be a drunkard and a domestic tyrant. He is also a merchant with a failing business. Cor is convinced that Moira was murdered by his competitor Saerk Farrahd, who has ruined Cor Delryn's business over the years.

Since the authorities have proven unable to find the murderers, Cor demands that Anomen takes revenge for his murdered sister by killing Saerk Farrahd and his family.

  3. However, Anomen first wants to think it over. He demands to see the urn with Moira's ashes, and takes the opportunity while away from his father to ask your advice on the matter.

  4. Here comes a crucial moment: You can either tell Anomen to go to the authorities and let them handle the case, or you can tell him that he should seek revenge. Choosing the law is the Good Path. Seeking revenge is the Evil Path.

Once you have offered Anomen your opinion, you go back to his father to tell him of Anomen's decision.

The Good Path: Letting the Law Handle the Case

  1. If you tell Anomen to let the authorities handle it, Anomen refuses to take revenge. The party gains 10,500 XP but Cor disowns Anomen.

  2. Still, Anomen demands that you should speak to the legal authorities. So make your way to the Council of Six building and speak to Bylanna.

  3. She can't do anything without solid proof. At this point, the good path is to tell Anomen that Saerk Farrahd may be innocent. However, you can also advice Anomen to seek revenge anyway, which would be the evil path.

  4. If you choose the good path, the party receives 7,500 XP. For choosing the evil path, you get nothing.

The Evil Path: Seeking Revenge

  1. If you tell Anomen that he should seek revenge, his father will be very pleased with his son. Cor gives you a key to Saerk Farrahd's Estate which he has "secured".

  2. Go to the Bridge District and enter Saerk Farrahd's Estate. You will be attacked by several guards.

  3. Kill all his guards and make your way to the stairs up to the second floor.

Don't kill the commoner and the cook in the rooms at 5 and 6. They yield little experience, no loot, and it will cost you a large Reputation drop.

  4. Once on the second floor, Saerk makes his entrance on the scene. His daughter Surayah also comes to see what the commotion is about. After a short exchange, Anomen kills Surayah, which costs the party 2 reputation points. Battle naturally follows. Kill Saerk and all his guards. Once done, take the time to loot the house thoroughly.

  5. Return to the Delryn Estate and speak to Cor Delryn again. Cor will be overjoyed and, for once, proud of his son. The party receives 10,500 XP for settling the matter, and with Saerk out of the way Cor leaves to rebuild his business.

  6. Anomen, however, expresses doubt that he has done the right thing...

Part 2: Anomen's Test

If you are not romancing Anomen, this part of the test happens 12 days after you resolved the previous quest. You will have to move outside in any area of Athkatla. Sir Ryan Trawl of the Order of the Most Radiant Heart appears and summons Anomen to the Order's Headquarters in the Temple District.

If you are romancing Anomen, it happens with the lovetalk that starts with Anomen saying "My Test is coming very soon, my lady." You can now go the Order of the Most Radiant Heart for the test. If you don't go to the order, Sir Ryan Trawl will appear in a few days to summon Anomen.

  1. Go to the Order of the Most Radiant Heart at 10 in the Temple District and enter.

  2. Once you enter the Order's headquarters, Anomen takes over and goes to take his test, bringing only you with him.

  3. Prelate Wessalen then performs the ceremony. What happens next depends on how you resolved the first of Anomen's quests, and on the party's reputation.

  4. If Anomen decided to seek revenge for his sister's murder, Prelate Wessalen rejects Anomen and casts him from the Order. Having failed in his life's ambition, Anomen effectively goes insane and his alignment shifts to Chaotic Neutral. The party gains 5,000 XP.

Anomen will also be rejected by the order if the party's reputation at this point is below 10.

If Anomen chose the way of the law in the first quest, he is accepted into the Order of the Most Radiant Heart. The party gains 10,000 XP. Anomen himself gains 50,000 XP, his Wisdom is raised to 16, his alignment shifts to Lawful Good, and his name changes to Sir Anomen.

  5. Only if Anomen fails the test: When you leave the Order's building, Anomen expresses a wish to kill everybody inside. If you ridicule him at this point ("What a splendid idea, Anomen!"), he leaves the party and attacks you. If you want to keep him in the party, calm him down and he will follow you peacefully.

NOTE: If you are not romancing Anomen, this concludes his quest.

Part 3: The Revelation of Moira's Murderer(s)

This part only happens if you are romancing Anomen. It plays out differently depending on whether you chose the Good or Evil Path. No matter what you did, it will turn out that you chose wrong. If you chose to seek revenge against Saerk Farrahd, the murderers turn out to be two of Cor Delryn's former employees who killed Moira because they bore a grudge against their former employer. If you chose to let the matter rest, the murderer turns out to be Saerk Farrahd, the man you convinced Anomen not to kill.

If you chose the Good Path

  1. Terl approaches Anomen with a letter saying that Anomen's father had received new evidence which proved that Saerk Farrahd was indeed the killer.

Unfortunately, Cor tried to seek revenge on his own and was killed by Saerk Farrahd.

  2. Whatever you say, Anomen leaves the party to seek revenge on Saerk Farrahd.

  3. To save your romance, you must find him within five days. He has gone to Saerk Farrahd's estate.

  4. Travel to the Bridge District in Athkatla. Find Saerk Farrahd's estate at 13 on that map. The door to the lower floor is locked, so go up the stairs and enter the second floor.

  5. You will find Anomen and Saerk threatening each other. Anomen notices you and asks what you are doing here.

  6. Tell Anomen you came to stop him from doing this. Then tell him that otherwise, he will become like his father. Any other answer will make Anomen attack Saerk and, if he wins the fight (which is not certain), leave the party permanently – at least for the remainder of Shadows of Amn. You can get him back at the start of Throne of Bhaal, but this will be the original Anomen (Lawful Neutral, Wisdom=12) whom you first met at the Copper Coronet.

  7. If you saved the romance, Anomen lectures Saerk, who goes away to await being arrested by the authorities. You may as well take the opportunity to loot Saerk Farrahd's Estate. ;-)

This concludes Anomen's NPC quest.

If you chose the Evil Path

  1. Terl approaches Anomen with a letter saying that Moira's murderers have been found. It was two disgruntled employees of Cor, not Saerk Farrahd as suspected.

However, Cor thanks Anomen for killing Saerk, thus making it possible for Cor to restore his business – but still disowns Anomen, who after all has killed innocents!

  2. Anomen however runs off to "settle" matters with his father once and for all!

  3. To save your romance, you must make your way to the Delryn Estate in the Government District of Athkatla within five days!

  4. Enter the Delryn Estate. You will find Anomen and Cor Delryn in the living room. Anomen is about to kill his father.

  5. Tell him that this will take him further down the path towards evil, and that you love him! All other dialog options will cause Anomen to kill his father and run off.

  6. If you choose the right dialog options, Anomen rejoins the party. If not, he kills Cor, gives all his inventory items to the party, and runs off, and he will not be available for the remainder of Shadows of Amn. However, you can get him back at the start of Throne of Bhaal but this will be the original Anomen (Lawful Neutral) whom you first met at the Copper Coronet.

This concludes Anomen's NPC quest.
