RETURN TO TRYNTON

Trynton

More Rattkin Goons and Snipers

I travel to the long rope at 'Up x 2' on the map of Trynton. I climb it, rest up and buff up. But then I go back down to kill a Brute Hogar for the xp.

I then go back up the rope and the entrance to the Rattkin Tree.

Rattkin Tree

I arrive at the spot marked 'Down' on the map of the Rattkin Tree. I take the elevator at 'E', and therefore kill several Swarming Wasps.

Now I go down the rope at the spot marked 'R'. I let several more Rattkin Goons and Snipers come to me. Terra plants a Toxic Cloud on them, while Chun-Li drops an Acid Bomb on them. Zarax makes repeated use of his breath on them, since they're packed together in a walkway straight ahead.

This time, I insist on getting a 3rd Ring of Beasts that Rothgar will wear for most of the rest of the game.

I kill off several more Swarming Wasps, climb back up the rope at 'R', and head for the exit to the 'Upper Branches' in the southwest corner.

Upper Branches of Trynton Map

Doubleshot Crossbow

That brings me to the spot marked 'Rattkin Tree' on the map of the Upper Branches. I go down a rope, and then make my way to the crossroads. I take the walkway that goes up and north until I reach Madras.

First, I temporarily kick RFS-81 out of the party. I then speak to Madras, who rewards me with 5,000xp for taking out the Rattkin Breeders. It is now possible to recruit him into the party, and I do so. The reason is I need a Gadgeteer with a high enough Engineering skill to assemble a missile weapon that I want for Rothgar. I head back to the crossroads.

Madras already has his own Lightning Rod with which to build up his Engineering skill during fights. I have him merge the PTorch with the Magnifying Glass to create the Searchlight. The Searchlight casts the Detect Secrets spell. It has a short duration, so it's a good way to build up the Engineering skill between fights.

He already has 35 points in Engineering. So I have him merge together two Light Crossbows into the Doubleshot Crossbow (extra attack each round) for Rothgar. But even the Doubleshot Crossbow will be an ingredient for a different weapon.

Tripleshot Crossbow

The next yardstick I need Madras to reach is 75 skill points. Firstly, I place him in the middle of the party arrangement alongside Chun-Li as he's rather on the frail side.

In between battles, I have him use the Searchlight whenever the previous Detect Secrets runs out. Sometimes I wait for monsters to come to me, sometimes I search around the Upper Branches for them, and sometimes I sleep out in the open on the crossroards to wake up to battles.

The battles themselves always involve every party member besides Madras maintaining defensive mode. I win by having only Madras use his Lightning Rod over and over and over again until each monster is brought down one by one. It's all about practicing his Engineering skill. It is a Stamina-consuming exercise for him though, so I have Chun-Li, Terra, Rothgar and Vi Domina cast Stamina on him in rotation and when needed.

The video shows the last three fights. I rest up and get attacked by 9 Swarming Wasps. Madras brings them down one at a time. He at this point gains enough xp to reach his 9th level-up. I add three skill points to Engineering to bring it to 69.

I go out to the Zoo and fight anohter 9 Swarming Wasps. And again Madras brings them down one by one. His Engineering is brought to 73. He uses his Searchlight and that brings his Engineering to 74. One more point needed.

I return to the Crossroads and go back to periodically using the Searchlight. I am eventually approached by six Leaf Sprites. Several Trynnies are nearby and attack them too. Ryu uses Elemental Shield and Vi Domina uses Soul Shield to protect against the Sprites' spells. Madras gets in enough shots with his Lightning Rod that his Engineering reaches the 75 points that I need.

Madras, now with 75 skill points in Engineering, merges the Doubleshot Crossbow with another Light Crossbow to produce the Tripleshot Crossbow (two extra attacks each round). Rothgar now has a missile weapon he'll use for a significant portion of the game.

I return to his observatory, and then dismiss him. I welcome RFS-81 back into the party for frontline duty.

Shaman Das

First I go to the spot labelled '7th' on the Upper Branches map. This is the Seventh Bough. I step up onto the platform, and 'use' both the Zuzu Petals and the Mystery Potion. Shaman Das then appears to me, and I get 25,000xp.

I return to the crossroads, and take the east walkway until I climb a ladder. I then go to the southeast corner of the map, labelled 'Shaman Das'. Just in front of the building is a small dais. I place Marten's Idol on top of it to open the door.

As soon as I enter the house, there are two smaller alcoves to the sides. These alcoves have miscellaneous loot. One item of interest to me is the Bracers of Defense (+2 armor class, +10% earth resistance, +10% divine resistance), which RFS-81 will wear in the interim.

I then speak to Shaman Das a second time. The answer to his first question is 'Marten'. The answer to his second question is 'Eternal trust survives the soul', which is revealed by a clue in the bedroom in Lower Marten's Bluff. Shaman Das then gives me the Key or Serenity.

I now go north to the entrance to the 'Rattkin Tree'.

Rattkin Tree

Helm of Serenity

I arrive at the entrance to the Rattkin Tree in the southwest corner, marked as 'Upper Branches'.

The Serenity Chest will be close by. I simply go ahead and take the first right. I enter and use the Key of Serenity to open a doo rinside. I next look for a stone slab in the floor and click at least twice on it to open. Now I down the revealed trap door and end up in the room right next to the Chest of Serenity.

The Chest itself will have the Helm of Serenity (+3 armor class, +30% mental resistance). The Helm is useful its own right for a character that can't wear heavy helmets, but it is also needed for the Destinae Dominus when I find it in the future. If anybody other than a character wearing the Helm of Serenity tries to take the Destinae Dominus, it will drive party members insane. If a character wearing the Helm of Serenity places the Destinae Dominus in his or her inventory, there won't be this problem. Terra replaces her Ninja Cowl with it and wears it for the rest of the game.

The Chest will also have about 3 to 6 items from the Serenity item list. I follow out the door ahead, and end up just a little east of the rope maked 'R'.

I fight more hordes of Rattkin for the xp, and obtain enough for Rothgar and Ryu to advance to their 19th levels. Rothgar takes Banishment, which means another character who can score plentiful damage against demons or undead. Ryu takes Crush, to give himself an option against distant single targets.

I make for the elevator at the spot marked 'E' and take it down. And from there I go to the entrance to Trynton at 'E'.

Trynton

Ring of Stars

Now I want to go down the rope at 'Up x 2'. Problem is there's several plants nearby. And they'll start the fight while I'm still on the platform, forcing me to take a fall down for hefty damage to reach them. The way around it is to cast the Chameleon spell, which allows me to reach the rope unnoticed and make my way down. I kill the plants and a Brute Hogar once I'm on the ground.

I bring the news of the Breedrs' defeat back to Chief Gari for 5,000xp.

Now the thing is, Chief Gari has his own drop list, with the prize of the drop list being the Ring of Stars (+4 armor class, +50% mental resistance). Again, forget trying to pickpocket it. Instead, I goad him into a fight by trying to pickpocket him when I haven't developed the skill at all and thus am guaranteed to fail at it.

I reload until I get the Ring, which Vi Domina wears. It makes her that much more resistant to mental spells in combination with her Iron Will skill, and therefore in a much better place to use Sand Mind when other party members may be affected by spells that cause Insanity.

Now I make my way towards the entrance to the Arnika-Trynton Road. Obtaining the Chaos Moliri is my next objective.
